There’s no shortage of jobs in the service industry at the moment but a lot of people on social welfare don’t want to work because they’ll lose their medical cards and housing benefits.

Reduce the threshold for medical cards so that you can retain it on minimum wage.

We need to stop this bullshit of people never putting in a days work.

People leaving work to concentrate on health shouldn’t be on jobseekers as you’re not actually seeking a job. Illness benefit should help to cover those situations.

The revolution in gay rights in Ireland is a large part of the reason why the Catholic church is now short of priests. The shamed closeted sons of Ireland are now living normal lives rather than being hidden as celibates in the priesthood allowing their denied sexuality to distort and fester.

This new leftist ideology is the most damaging case of groupthink the world has ever seen.

Not wanting to pay for the accommodation, medical care and lifestyle of some loser that refuses to work all of a sudden makes people "fascist".

Last year I paid close to 45k in paye. That money is sorting about 5 people out with their dole for the year.

What do I see from the taxes I pay? These people are not contributing to society. So in practical terms I have adopted 5 random strangers.

I see nothing from my taxes NOTHING. That is not a fair deal for people that work their holes off. Some work 40+ hrs a week and are barely making the rent/mortgage. Meanwhile some burden to the state has 5 kids with 5 welfare recipients and they have a new build handed over to them, free education , free medical care, a weekly wage, fuel allowance, Christmas allowance.

Central Bank should implement lending rules allowing renters to purchase REPOSSESSED PROPERTIES using 100% mortgage.

Simple qualification rule for EXAMPLE:

Min 3yrs no arrears rent paid

Monthly rent paid €1000 qualifies monthy mortage of €800 over x retired years.

Way too much is made of Christmas in this country and the UK.

All the adds for toys, giftsets, perfumes etc land in the day after Halloween and you end up talking or seeing things about Christmas for 1/6th of the year. It all takes away from the day itself as its hard to live up to the expectations that build up brings

Of course I questioned it but no company was going to buck the trend and pay me more than the going rate. I regularly checked available positions within the same line of work and never saw one offering more than I was already on.

I left one company due to lack of job satisfaction and went to another on exactly the same salary but with a £1k fuel allowance to cover my 2hr daily commute.

Covid brought that to an abrupt end.

Last year I paid close to 45k in paye. That money is sorting about 5 people out with their dole for the year.

What do I see from the taxes I pay? These people are not contributing to society. So in practical terms I have adopted 5 random strangers.

I see nothing from my taxes NOTHING. That is not a fair deal for people that work their holes off. Some work 40+ hrs a week and are barely making the rent/mortgage. Meanwhile some burden to the state has 5 kids with 5 welfare recipients and they have a new build handed over to them, free education , free medical care, a weekly wage, fuel allowance, Christmas allowance.

The welfare state is a good cushion as any of us at any could be dependent on it. Though I think people who are obviously milking the system should be scrutinised by the social welfare staff as we all know people in our respective towns who are taking the piss.

Also I think prison is to soft as I have a close relative that did 5 years and said he could it again standing on his head it was that handy inside. (he was in for fraud and tax evasion)

I can't remember the name but I do know people who have been on it and yes it has made them feel worthless in fact they went in and did the job every day they were meant to they couldn't afford any lunch to bring with them .When they mentioned it they were told they should be happy to be given the opportunity to learn a new skill .The skill was cleaning GAA changing rooms and toilets 4 days a week or stacking shelves in shops or picking up litter in parks. All worked their days and the 'pay' they got was less than minimum wage and one was even told when asked was there any chance of a job at the end sure why would we employ anyone when we get free labour on this scheme.

I don't care if you believe this happens or not but I know it has and like I said I know people who worked all their lives lost their jobs and within a few months were put on these so called back to work schemes. That could even have been been the name of them.

Social welfare needs a complete overhaul ,but having been there, it's shocking the way people can be treated and yet people are long term on it,noone should be on it longterm, it should be a helping hand.

Age of Consent definitely not lowered, and I think most cases of 15 years old having sex is dealt with differently than a 55 Yr old having sex with a 15 Yr old.

Car tax is a complete joke

I did the Job bridge programme fir 6 months while unemployed. Was hired to do the marketing and set up the website.

My jobs included

Cleaning

Taking in deliveries

Sending out deliveries

Serving customers

Accounts

Opening/closing

I worked 3 days which were agreed at the start however every week them 3 days changed sometimes getting a text on a Sunday night at 10pm to be told

If I was a min late a smart comment was made however if a customer came I during lunch hour to the shop I was made serve them

No you lose all your benefits if you don't take part you have no choice in the job you are sent to do,the hours or the days.

I find it vile that people get treated like this in this day and age. And I saw how badly it effected some of the people I know that were on them.These weren't people who were abusing the system they were just normal people who just happened to lose their jobs.They were already.embarrassed at having to draw the dole .And I do understand some people abuse the system and know every loop hole and yes they should be pulled on it but there are so many more who would love to work but for whatever reason are struggling to find a job and then put on these bullshit schemes is a joke .And shame on any employer who uses them as free labour as well especially when they know there is no training or hope of any job after .

Something more holistic would be great but it's not normally what happens and after a certain age they have no interest in training anyone anyhow.When a lot of the older people who lose jobs are the ones who need the training and would be willing to do it.

I did the Job bridge programme fir 6 months while unemployed. Was hired to do the marketing and set up the website.

My jobs included

Cleaning

Taking in deliveries

Sending out deliveries

Serving customers

Accounts

Opening/closing

I worked 3 days which were agreed at the start however every week them 3 days changed sometimes getting a text on a Sunday night at 10pm to be told

If I was a min late a smart comment was made however if a customer came I during lunch hour to the shop I was made serve them

Was that mandatory at the time? Was it the same as the basic jobseekers. I cant remember the details of the scheme but remember it being a shambles alright"

Wasn't mandatory but got the sw off my back as to why I couldn't get work I was out of work 3 months, I've worked since I was 16. I was reduced to tears in the sw welfare office by the person and at the time I was on the civil service panel.

There's a couple of private companies that are paid by the government to get people off the register and onto these schemes

That particular one I was sent out templates to use to fill in and get practically free labour

There was meant to be a chance of a job at the end of it ....but they didn't care if you couldn't offer one

One of my competitors used this scheme when they priced a large job at no margin ....they only had to pay 50 euro to those that worked a 40 hour week ...social paid the rest

I know I'm very lucky with my income and lifestyle, no complaints there.

My understanding of taxation is that it is to benefit society.

I'm 100% in favour of free education and the right to free medical care.

That said, I wasn't one of those whinging when they introduced fees for 3rd level for those that can afford to pay.

I'm 100% in favour of welfare payments for people that lose their jobs.

I'm actually supportive of welfare benefits in general but what I'm not supportive of is the sense of entitlement and the ignorance of those in receipt of such payments. The money you receive comes from somewhere... That "somewhere" is actually someone's pay packet.

My point being, it's not about me as an individual. There are thousands of people on 30-40k paying tax and seeing no benefits from paying it. If you earn as little as 50k you pay atleast 14k in tax and you don't see any return on that.

People on longterm unemployment can avail of CE schemes, looking after graves and football pitches etc etc. The benefit is you can work while not on the scheme and still keep your benefits.

As someone who has been on both sides some of the bashing is needed,people are pulling the puss on social welfare and the ones who have worked and than hit direct straits are treated shockingly bad by the system. I worked as a temp clerical officer in social welfare and had my eyes opened to it. I also was on it for a while, have even availed of SVDP but I got myself up and now I'm in a good place. Go into any coffee shop at moment and there is a sign for staff wanted, yet people are giving out no jobs available. When I was unemployed I applied for Amy job going even if I was over qualified.

As I've said I've been in receipt of social welfare and was treated appallingly by social welfare, had to make a complaint about a social welfare inspector.

I actually think you're wrong as someone that doesn't rate himself from falling far from the ugly tree himself

It's personally that comes through on most of those threads and the bit of craic that comes from them

There's always someone more attractive that someone else so don't let that put you off

Take part as who you are and let women see the real you and not just look at you

"The “kiss, fuck etc” and “my mate fancies you” threads are a scourge and an absolute cringefest. Grow a pair and mail someone if you fancy them. If you’re using it to get around filters to contact someone, stop your nonsense. I agree with this, to a certain extent..I guess this works for certain men, whom are attractive, and able to catch the eye of the Ladies on this..where as myself who doesn't find himself attractive, would not get any response from a lady on this or any other dating site if I tell them I fancy them. This is my own opinion, I can't speak for anyone else. "

See I pass no heed on them as I'm very rarely named in them so I still.rnjoy the forums and if I get named I get a wee smile and move on. Its only a bit of fun

I agree what a horrible way to think that people who are a certain age that their views and right to vote for their future no longer should be recognised.

I believe the law in retail is that you have to be over 16 to purchase these items.. but I don't think many places are following this rule. I could be wrong about the rule thing though
