You and the crowd

i travel all over

Taken from the lounge but timely as many socials coming up in November

how do you make sure you don't get lost in a crowd? How do you "work the room" in a social gathering of any kind? Do you stick to your little group? Do you make sure you talk to everyone? Do you aim at certain people who look like your kindred spirit? Are you approachable or a bit of a shy wallflower?

I'm ridiculously shy, especially in situations where I don't know anyone, but I think I'm still approachable. I'm OK-ish once I get going usually but my mind will be constantly racing, continually assessing my "performance". Am I talking enough? Talking too much? Am I boring them? Shit, I can't remember their name. All that stuff and nonsense. But I can only be myself and people just have to take me as they find me

K

I tend to focus on those I know , have things in common with the profile of , or I am interested in. I like to do a bit of research on whom I am co attending a social with ideally so there are some ice breakers

Have been to a good few socials and will admit I was dreadful would literally sit with the people I know and not move around. But somewhere in the last year not sure what happened but I do try and mix more and chat to people to the surprise of quite a few people who have actually commented on how I've come out of my shell. The last social I had a snowglobe (had a wee willy in it) between my boobs going around telling the guys that's what their willy would like between my boobs. Noone offered the real thing though

Presumably a more suitable venue for tit wank paraphernalia than the Galway city centre pub where I last saw you at a social ?

Dunboyne

I have a drink or two, kinda saying hello, then head to the smoking area when you know who is part of the M&G. Then the real chats and banter start and that usually continues when you go back in.

Always difficult walking into a room as "Billy no mates" but typically everyone there is in the same boat & are like minded souls, so introducing yourself & asking how they are is usually a good start...sometimes there is a kik group in advance of the Social, that also helps..but I find pulling up the big boy pants, going easy on the drink, embracing your inner superhero all help...oh and be yourself...enjoy...strangers are just friends you haven't met

Heard this advice years ago for work conferences. You go in and look at groups. A group of two is dodgy if they're facing each other, side by side means they're scanning the room as well so may be worth an approach. An open group of 3 can be joined as you assume it may be two linked and one random so what's another.

4 or more you're getting dodgy as you'll join as a passenger and a hijacker if you knock someone else out. Finally it can often be easiest to seek out that other person just sitting alone and if the conversation doesn't click, you can invite them to approach another group over there. If the groups not really engaging you, you can park that person there without being rude and at least people have seen you socialising rather than giving killer vibes in the corner.

somewhere

Play it by ear ...usually sit with people I know but then mingle

So many people I'd like to say hello to in 2 weeks at the next one

Found having dinner in the hotel in groups first a great way of chatting

I find dressing like a slut always helps. Smile and be friendly. Been recently advised not be afraid of telling those that can't take a hint to fuck off.

Evaluate the situation and work accordingly towards what your goal is....same in that setting,I don't need to work everyone in the crowd, I just need to work those I want to work. Hopefully they reciprocate the advance and take it from there and re Evaluate again! Sounds clinic but in reality it's just being normal nice and approachable. Im not gonna stand up on a chair chair announce myself to the room!

I float round the room and chat to anyone who will listen to me. Sure I love the banter.

That’s a big factor . We’re out of practice when it comes to large gatherings like weddings
