So going through the forum this morning and saw the insurance thread, which made me think, what other hacks or price saving things are out there. With the cost of living rising its getting more expensive, so what saving tips have people got in terms of hacks or tricks or general prudent advise!! Could be useful to share and all save ourselves a few euro or pounds.

If you're with Sky it can cost a fortune every month

Ring them and threaten to cancel

It can take a while to get through but they usually offer 6 months half price to stay

Dont get a new phone and call/data plan on the bill every month

It's a lot cheaper to buy a phone separately and a 30 day sim only deal with a provider

Maybe not as relevant in the contact less world but I had one of them massive saving jars and use to put all my change and some notes in it after a night out & whatever was in my wallet at the end of the week sometimes.

Did it for a year and when I moved out of my flat at the end of the year I had close to £1500 saved which helped me buy a sofa for my new place without dipping into any funds.

If you use booking.com regularly and have a account you sometimes get discounts off room. But check the hotel you are staying with first they are sometimes cheaper if you book directly.

I switched to An Post for my main current account the fees are cheaper. Plus there's a wallet part in online bank I love. You can set up wallets for bills holidays etc and transfer money to it. So they money is gone out of your current account and sitting in one of these wallets until you need the money.

Use Bonkers.ie to change gas & electricity the minute your contracts are up, otherwise you end up on much higher rates. Shop in Lidl & Aldi. For health insurance go on a corporate plan with VHI, they give a lot of refunds for GP visits, x-rays etc.. that non-corporate plans don’t do!

I used 1 of those cheap Chinese diesel heaters in my flat last winter.. Uses 0.5litre of fuel an hour and puts out decent heat.. Saved a fortune on my gas bill.. Planning on doing the same this winter

Use Revolut Vaults. Daily, weekly, monthly payments into a vault for each utility, bill or something you are saving for. Setup a change saving vault even

As Rosy said above, set up your bank acc so that the money goes into another acc as soon as it comes in. I have set myself a budget of €50 a week to spend on coffee and treats. The rest goes into holiday and house accs. You dont miss what you dont have!!

Cashback sites like quidco.

If buying anything online check if the seller is on a cashback site.

Earn money in things you would have bought anyways.

From hotels, flights, car insurance, sky, to Argos etc
