I have no idea, what his principal language is, but think about the education he has been given; in future he decides to use an esoteric word, he will choose carefully and his use of his second language will have been improved.

To have left his vocabulary uncorrected would have disimproved his use RP; received pronunciation.

My correction was benevolented articulated with not an iota of condescension.
