The Chieftains have to one of the greatest traditional Irish groups of all time; the death of Paddy effectively brings this era to an end.

Paddy was a great musician, a charismatic leader and a savvy businessman.May he rest in peace.

Indeed, an ambassador of Irish culture is lost with his passing , may he rest in peace

I am sure The Late Late will do a fitting tribute to a man who was a superb ambassador for Ireland, Irish music, Irish culture, and The Chieftains.

The don't make them like that very often!

Regrettably, I had been expecting an announcement of his demise, because I saw a photo of him recently, and he did not look well, at all.

When I was at work today, over lunch I watched a 2008 broadcast about the history of The Chieftains; they were superb, but Paddy had the magical quality of a true pioneer; courageous, adventurous, innovative, enterprising, creative, and regrettably now departed. But leaving behind a 50 legacy of quality recordings.
