Newry Down

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers 1954.

The female star, Jane Powell, a superb singer, died very recently.

Newry Down

The best feel good Christmas movie, by a long shot, is the 1949 film, It's a Wonderful Life.

The little girl in James Stewart's arms, in the final scene, is still alive.

I am a 'tough nut' in many respects, but it always brings a tear to my eye.

Wonderful life!

Much prefer miserable films . My top 10 are all pretty much of the ‘harrowing’ type

If I must pick feel good I would say finding Neverland but it does involve kids being orphaned and divorce

Newry Down

A very dark film, in many respects, but with a really strong feel good factor, at the very end, is The Searchers from 1956 with John Wayne, Ward Bond, Ken Curtis, Natalie Wood, Sarah Miles, et al., including John Wayne's own son, who plays the character of the young US trooper.

A very interesting film about which a lot of scholarly articles have been written; John Wayne had some controversial views about the native Americans!

Newry Down

A 1985 film which exemplifies the community spirit of a religious group is Witness starring Harrison Ford and Kelly McGillis.

The cooperative barn-raising scene always gives me goose-bumps, because it typifies what current society lacks.

"

Also has influence on the music world...

A young guy in Lubbock Texas, was inspired to write a song using John Wayne's catchphrase from the film..

Film title also gave its name to pop group from the 60's
