So hard to just pick one. Have to agree for males it's Freddie all the way, I think he was the ultimate showman. I also am not ashamed to say I love Brandon Flowers.

For women Joan Jett and Ann Wilson come to mind, as well as Gwen Stefani.

Only saw Freddie live once just before live Aid and was amazed

Bono can't do anything wrong in my eyes as a live band experience and is a huge part of getting them where they are

Prince was amazing

My favourite Paul Mc Cartney...such a nice man, great songwriter and the best band ever ...not a conventional front man

Not my favourite band by any stretch but the only answer to this question is mike jagger.

Maybe not 80s dancing in the streets mike but original mike.60s 70s.

Not only best but first of what you would call a modern frontman.

How many have copied him since?

Robert Plant…. All day and night.

Debbie Harry, or Florence Welch

For an largely unknown contribution - Gord Downie, Tragically Hip - Canadian Band from the late 80’s onwards… he died of inoperable brain tumour. Netflix doc on the band and him called Long Time Running.

Best female front person for me is Karen O...the Yeah Yeah Yeahs aren't the greatest band in the world but she just oozes charisma and is probably the closest to a female Jagger we've got

Best male has to Iggy Pop. Absolute dynamite on stage...most people's image of him is an old man dancing topless but watch videos of him from the late 60s/early 70s...jaw dropping stuff. Also he's a massively underrated vocalist...very versatile, can scream or croon with the best of them

Missed seeing alot of the proper rock n roll frontmen in their prime but Liam gallagher I did see and he was probably the last of the old school TV out a window types.

Dave growl was pretty good live

Caleb followil & Alex Turner before they became dicks

Julian Casablancas (strokes)

Kelly Jones for being a cool bastard

Ps can't believe the guy above didn't mention the pogues

Have to agree with this, was there even such a thing as a front man before Jagger? Honourable mention to Fatboy Slim, if you want to call them a band as their a one man show

Absolutely bang on. Jagger set the standard for the rest to follow.

He basically invented the concept of the swaggering macho rock god. But he was also surprisingly feminine in his mannerisms.

No surprise his biggest stage influences were James Brown and Tina Turner! Both of whom are candidates for best front man/woman as well
