Noticed whilst driving yesterday that many radio stations were re-playing the god awful despacito again . On reflection this is not a surprise , a single owner owns Today FM and Newstalk, Spin 1038 and 98FM , Spin Southwest, Off the Ball, audioXI and GoLoud .

So not only is the music choice monopolised , but the news is too to an extent . No wonder there is such fertile ground for more extreme narratives to grow , when there is no sensible middle of the road robust discussion to take place .

Or maybe I should grow to like the Justin bieber remix and stop overthinking . There is not an awful lot any of us can do about it anyway , unless we go fund a fab media company

Rte Radio 1 is the best station for current affairs.

As for music, you have to be lucky with occasional good hours here and there across all stations. (except spin south west)

Me too, but largely because of the poor quality of much of what’s on the radio

I kinda miss Ivan Yates and Chris donoghue !!

Exactly, very poor quality. Couldn't even name any presenters any more who I'd miss

What is it with every radio station in Ireland now having a male and female presenter mostly in their 40’s acting dumb and childish like, on 7am breakfast shows??

RTE Radio 1 doesn't have this (dumb aspect certainly.... Except for tubridy some may say), give it a try.

John Creedon on RTE is absolutely brilliant everything else is garbage.

Same songs played about 20 times a day and annoying DJs who think they are comedians.

The 2fm morning show has to be one of the worst shows I've ever heard. It sounds like a parody. Insufferable

Bring back George Hook I say!

Proper, considered argument, like you'd have in the pub and still laugh afterwards

She’s very bright , and a real natural under pressure

But something about her annoys me

What I loved about the Chris and Ivan show was the level of detail they could predict election outcomes to , with Ivan really putting his former career to use
