"Hello all.. I'm just getting something off my chest so having a rant..... Every generation have their troubles growing up and I feel its part of life... I myself have a personal bitter view today of the Catholic Church and how it warped my sexiual views.... Its something I can't let go of... I'm very open minded and belive in live and let live.... But the anger lies just below the surface... I feel so much of life was not explored..... Rant over.... " Hating anyone or anything damages no one but you. It's like drinking a bottle of poison & expecting them to die.

Hate, in my opinion, is a wasted emotion, often the recipient undeserving of the energy spent on it, but definitely poisonous. Anger can turn toxic and destructive too, for yourself and those around you if not dealt with appropriately. Bottom line is, I think, not to dwell on the past but to try and learn from it, as well as from the influences that form us. To accept the past for what it is - the past, which cannot be changed. The Catholic church has had a huge impact on the Irish way of life, infiltrated thoughts, emotions and behaviours on a societal level for generations. It's about being able to be true to yourself and your values while loved ones may still be heavily influenced by the church and hold other values and beliefs, particularly the older generation. I'm sorry to hear that you feel you missed out because of the impact the church has had on your life OP. Have you ever considered talking to a professional about your anger? It's great that you are acknowledging it. The next step could be how to constructively deal with it and find effective coping mechanisms to give you the ability to let go, or sit with anger at appropriate times in your life (get a punch bag and focus on the anger while getting a little exercise in, as an example, exert the anger in a constructive way rather than a destructive way - I've heard of people being advised to set a time and place for grief too - it sounds very clinical, particularly as emotions come over us out of the blue generally - maybe they can be partially pre-empted?). And try to live life to the full in the here and now, putting past regrets and anger behind you. Wishing you the best on your journey, OP x

"Thank you for those wise words... I have had a few session with counciling which i found amazing and very benificial....its just a pity... I look back at all those doors that I would pass through... But that's the past.. Time to move on.... " Exactly, and remember, what's meant for you, won't pass you by. You wouldn't be the person you are today without going through what you did. Embrace it and make it better or makethe most of life and what's really important going forward x
