My mom told me when i was born one of the girls smuggled in a camera and took photos of all the girls babies so they would have something to remenber them by but the local chemist had been warned by the nuns not to develop any films from the 'harlots' in the home so they never got them developed

Another girls sister smuggled in a Polaroid on a visit and my mom kept that picture and gave it to me when we finally met 43 years later

"I watched it the other week so so sad. They really were evil. "

Many organisations within the Catholic Church were inherently evil, throughout the planet.

And the principal motivation of the organisations was the acquisition of power and influence, and money.

It was a sick dysfunctional system, populated by sick, warped and damaged people.

If I was to post what I have personally experienced this post would be deleted.

The system was rotten to its core; people have caught on and support has dropped precipitously, like a stone!

I'm adopted, Laura is adopted, and my father was adopted. 2 different mother and baby homes were involved and I have stories of endemic spite and cruelty that I haven't got the heart to detail. Suffice to say I literally feel total rage and the urge to spit when I see a nun or a priest on the street. I have to cross to the other side and look straight ahead. Its not just one of two. The abusers rule the roost and the ones who aren't as strong don't dare speak up. It's dirty from the top to the bottom.

I know my families experience isn't everyone's experience. Is guess that was a baby who wasn't born of sin and therefore not of zero worth in their eyes. Same reason some babies who died got graves and headstones, and others got unceremoniously added to the pit in the back of the baby home.

On RTE Radio 1 about a year ago, I listened to a Gay Byrne tribute programme. The 'Letters to Gay' piece)(not sure if that was the actual title) on the Gay Byrne Hour on Radio 1 was very intereting and she'd some light on the scandalous way young pregnant girls were mistreated.

One woman wrote about her experience (i.e. She was writing about her early life). She confided in Gay and obviously his listeners, that she had become pregnant and was shipped off by her family. A local nurse, whom she had always liked and looked up to, was employed to accompany her on her journey to the unnamed Mother & Baby Home. The writer said that the nurse was surpsingly very harsh with her and kept making cutting remarks to the expectant mother throughout the long journey. The poor girl said she didn't know how to explain that her pregnancy was not the result of unprotected sex with a boyfriend; rather, she had been violated and worse, the crime was committed by a family member.

So it was another case of a female, who herself was little more than a child, being attacked by a person they trusted. Instead of being given the care and understanding any victim of a crime deserves, the reverse was true.

What a terrible country we lived in then. Many things have changed for the better but the Church acted shamefully and as we have seen, criminally.

'Philomena' was a brilliant piece of work by the writer, Martin Sixsmith, who made sure Steve Coogan's portrayal of him showed Sixsmith with warts and all. A film to watch but choose the night carefully.

Newry Down

The injustices exposed in the film, Philomena, are still taking place, albeit by organisations other than catholic religious orders.

These current organisations are happy that the focus is on past injustices by religious orders rather than what they are currently doing; this will be the focus of a future thread.

The current organisations are making a lot of money as the catholic church did in the past.

The catholic church successfully infiltrated almost every aspect of Irish society in the past: education health, adoptions, human spiritual needs, property development, etc. These current organisations are also becoming wealthy through the provision of lucrative public services.

Details to follow!
