And it really shouldn’t do

I am not sure it does anymore

I think gone are the days where you had to get enough points to be a lawyer or a doctor

I mean how many points do influencers and bitcoin traders need ?

There many more ways available to people now who may not have had a great leaving cert or any leaving cert to access third level education.

It may take a bit longer than the traditional route but it can be done. I work in adult education and have helped many learners without a leaving cert access third level education.

Fair play . Do adult educators have an unfair advantage in sheep quizzes?

That's not to take away from the amazingly hard work your son put into his exams. Some kids are lucky and know exactly what they wanna do when they are still in school and will put in all the work needed.

Others barely know who they are at that stage, nevermind anything else so it takes them a bit longer to figure all that out.

The sticks

Congrats to all the leaving certs but please stay safe tonight.

Leaving cert results days bring back bad memories of bad results!!!

Parents went ape shit with me

Was working in a part time job and the next morning my boss said "I hear you fucked up your Leaving Cert.......well you have feck all else to do so you can start here full-time in the morning".

27yrs later, never been out of work, went back to college at night (several times) and I'm happy out.

I find it mental the focus which the system puts on the LC results, more to life than the points race!!!

Brutal tough years for this years LCert graduates. My brain and hers both melted many times already so today was an anticlimax. 510 points which is fantastic but not enough for the course she wants.

But none of us give a hoot, just glad to have secondary over with. Its a defunct system with no creativity, flexibility or imagination. That narrow box is unfit for purpose in the modern landscape.

Congrats to her Rub, 510 is great!

She will get the course she wants, just maybe not in the most direct route she may have preferred.

Congrats to all that took the Leaving Cert in what can only be described as the most difficult of study circumstances.

I'm just happy those pressures didn't exist in my day...the only pressure was "a good job with pension"

The Leaving is part of their journey & no matter what they decide to study, it's another part of the journey.. as parent all we can do is support, wish them well & have their back.

Never be disappointed in your child's achievement...they did their best.

Is it just me that sees the irony of (at face value) student exam performance increasing hugely when they barely attended school in the year?

Great news on your daughter finishing .

It definitely needs to be modernised, There’s a lot of young people i worked with in the past, who just couldn’t handle the pressure of the leaving cert.

It’s too much stress on just 2 weeks of exams.
