He is a phenomenal player for sure, his conditioning, fitness and ability to maintain competitiveness into his mid 30s is amazing...very few players can stay on that level for more than 3-5 years. Ronaldo has basically done this for 15 years straight give or take.....insane.

That said 'in my view' Maradona was a more innately talented, played in a much tougher, rougher era (borderline blood sport at times) and more than any player before or since drove his team to world cup victory. And 4 years later almost got them there again despite being a degenerate junkie. The guy was a magician...he also dragged a non entity Napoli to 2 league titles. Different eras for sure but some of the shit he accomplished was straight up alchemy!

Whilst I stick by my original view , that is a very impressive way to argue a point

As a liverpool fan it's in my nature to loathe every united / ex united player. But I'll admit I used to love watching Beckham play and think Ronaldo is flooping awesome. Just hope he wont win much at united

He'd have been unarguably the best of all time but another hypothetical is imagine the Brazilian Ronaldo without the two career threatening injuries, he may well now be lauded as the best there ever was.

It's mad that Ronaldo is forever competing against Messi according to the public. I've always been of a mind it's better to enjoy the two.

If I were to make any comparison it'd be excluding the Balon D'or which is basically a popularity contest.

Excellent post on Maradona and completely agree.

I think Ronaldo is by far one of the hardest working professional sportspeople on the planet. His work outdoes his talent which he also has an abundance of. Unbelievably good signing by UTD, didn't think they'd fork out his wages to be honest!

But for me I still think Messi beats him, personal opinion of course. We're lucky to be able to see these two on the big stage for the last 10 to 15 years, unbelievable!!

I thought the Irish goal keeper deserved a mention in fairness. He saved that penalty to deny Ronaldo a new world record ... that was gold !! Ronaldo wasn't happy

Or had Sir Alex Ferguson as a manager, he would've looked after Maradona like he looked after so many other players the way he did to protect them from the pitfalls .

Actually fergie might Have sold him like he with McGrath. Discipline was massive for him.

I think Ronaldo’s dedication shouldn’t be seen as a minus compared to Maradonna’s romanticised but flawed genius. He might be below maradonna’s level in terms of baseline but he elevated Himself with years and years of hard work to GOAT status in my opinion

Not if Maradona arrived at the same age as Ronaldo, Paul McGrath was already an established player at that time, Fergie would have made him realise what he'd lose out on if he didn't stay on the straigt and Narrow to a very extent.
