OK it's nearly September, kids back to school and some kind of routine is upon us. I have definitely struggled to keep exercise up and the covid lbs have gotten comfortable. Who's up for some motivation, challenges or kick up the arse mentality?

I've been going to the gym but I've been going out at the weekends so I'm gonna do a clean September!! Off the drink, clean eating and keep the pressure up in the gym. Up for any motivation I can get.

If you struggle alone try to rope a friend into walking/running/gym with you. Its honestly the best advsie as u turn up when u don't want to to avoid judgement/letting the other person down.

I was kinda alrite through lockdowm on my own doing 5ks twice a week for a large portion of it. Dipped a bit since things opened up but got one of my mates into doing a 'triathlon' at the gym with me once a week - 5k cycle, 3k run, 2k row.

Keeps us both going as we push the times we do it in & means I'm motivated to go a few other times a week to get better at our triathlon

It’s hard, but it’s all about attitude. Regard training as an essential life need, such as food and going to the toilet. Not knocking walkers but you need to do something that makes you sweat. Make a deal with yourself, stick a calendar on the door. The reason we give up is that we don’t make a deal with ourselves. Offer yourself a decent treat in three months, set a plan, and commit to it, no maybes, you’re either doing it or you’re not. That’s my tupence!! Good luck.

Great idea. I was in a group from here during lockdown and it was great to start with as there were challenges and you were motivated to participate and keep going even on those days you didn’t feel like it. I’d be up for a bit of motivation again.

Start of with monthly challenges like squats for one month, then the plank challenge for one month, then mix and match.write it down on your diary or even use the phone ,the difference is unreal.I use 2 kettle bells for upper body exercises and the difference is Amazing.

If anyone needs a list of challenges let me know

From the previous group there was a 30 day challenge and 25 day challenge. A set number of exercises starting quite low and increasing and it was things like 10 squats, sit-ups etc. You got points for doing the exercises when then developed to extra points for video / picture proof. Was also a steps challenge posting daily steps and points for reaching a target

I would suggest us all agreeing to 3 x 40 min vigorous sessions per week. Anything that gets heart going and sweating. Light sessions like walking not included.

Everyone then post small details each week.

Maybe records weight, not for public. This would take 3 weeks to become habit.

With the weather being so idyllic, I went for a fast paced walk along the North Down Coastal Path this afternoon and earlier this week I did the Lagan Towpath from Belfast to Lisburn.

Exceptionally warm, and little breeze; when I speak to singles and couples I often muse, How many of these folk are secret swingers, or wish they were?

I actually think structure is very important . If you do something regularly (say a power walk with locals , 5 a side , cycling on Saturdays ) and you commit then you beat yourself up less about having done little because you’re regularly doing something . Group activities are best because if you don’t go then you ll be letting people down which is another motivation to keep going .

I spotted this somewhere a few weeks ago and started today - November 1st

3000 squats for the month - so that is 100/day

Have done them today in sets of 20 at a time.

After a few days will do 25 at a time so morning, lunch time, evening time and just before bed.

Easy to do and takes very little time.
