Hey there. When a couple meets a single, be it male or female how would you split the bill? Is it 2 ways or 3 ways? Treating the couple as individuals?

Like I, as a woman will always buy her round and not be bought for by "the men" if there's 3 of us in a round.. then 3 of us but a round, which is often argued.

So let's say, "hypothetically" we met a delicious man in a hotel for a night, he graciously done the organising & booking of accommodation, even bringing chocolates & prosecco and we had a great time. We split the bill & we payed 1/2 but now I'm thinking we "screwed" him...so to speak..lol & we sound have payed 2/3rds. What's everyone's thoughts on this both as a couple or as singles who have been in this situation. Thanks

i travel all over

I started off only charging the guys for accommodation costs which can be significant , out of chivalry I guess, but now everyone pays an equal share .

As regards a meal. I've a totally platonic relationship with a couple who always pay separately in that way.

For a hotel arrangement, I guess it would depend on the arrangement. If I had a hotel booked anyway and someone was coming to stay. I'd pay.

If we are all booking together to stay the whole night I'd have no problem paying half.

If you are all staying the night then you split the bill by half I wouldn't expect it to be split 3 ways tho. If you use the room for the night and he just calls for a few hours (or visa versa) then whoever stays the night pays is how I'd do it anyhow .

If It was me booking the room etc id pay for room no matter if they other person staying all night ot only for x amount time. It would be on me

If I was traveling to another town/city and the couple couldn't host, but it was me staying overnight in the room, then I think halving the cost would be fair bcos the room is a necessity for all of us.

If the couple has the option to go home but we all decide it would be cool for everyone to stay overnight, then again halving would be fair, I think.

If everyone stays overnight out of necessity, then splitting the cost of the room three ways is fair, I think.

When it comes to drinks and dinner, then splitting it three ways is the fair way, no question.

Now, whether or not everyone wants to do it the fair way is a different story.

If a couple offered to split things between three, I would be more inclined to insist on 50/50. If they just assume it's 50/50 I would be more inclined to suggest splitting it three ways just to challenge their assumption.

The very first time we organised a hotel meet (which didn't eventuate) the single guy told me, he would never expect the lady to pay, so the bill would be split in half, with each guy paying half. These days, I prefer we pay the hotel cos we would stay, but I would expect our playpal to go home.

I’m definitely 50/50 when meeting a couple. I would never dream of trying to go to a 3 way split bill. That’s just a bridge too far in my opinion. Going Dutch on a big meal out is ok.
