Take your time, have a think about why you’re moving and what you want, tough decision to leave family and friends. " I'd second this, also, as someone who moved back from the UK after 12 years there, Ireland is expensive, unless you're on a low income you have to pay for GP visits and prescriptions, the state health service is pretty abysmal in terms of waiting times, public transport services are well below those of the UK so if you live rurally, expect to be car dependent. Rent, food, utilities all cost more than you are used to. The Irish may seem open and friendly on the surface, but it can be quite difficult to integrate into small, cliquey communities, if you're alone you will have no support network. The country also has social issues just like everywhere else. Yes, it can be a great move for some, but it's not without it's pitfalls. Think about it carefully and don't close the door behind you leaving the UK | |||

It’s important to get an honest reflection so I appreciate it! I’m not at all scared of being in a new place solo, I’ve done it many times. Luckily if I dislike it I can always move I’m a bit of a nomad! "Many of my coworkers are from Eastern Europe and have moved here from England because the rent is cheaper, but they have said the wages aren’t the same here as in certain parts of England (we don’t get paid as well). Wages and rent reflect the area you live in, just my opinion. What I mean is if you decided to leave your current job and look for a new one over here you might struggle to get the same money. | |||

I live here "I lived in newry for almost 10 years. Its not a great place if you're a woman who doesn't fit the small town mentality standard. Wouldn't go back to it even if you paid me... People in Warrenpoint are still actually talking about this one swingers party that took place in warrenpoint Castle about 6 years ago (I don't think there even was one, but rumours spread like wildfire). I lived in newry for almost 10 years. Its not a great place if you're a woman who doesn't fit the small town mentality standard.

I’m disappointed you think of Newry like that. After all I live just outside it and we’re blessed because we’re 40 mins from Belfast and 45 mins from Dublin and the best thing is.

Wouldn't go back to it even if you paid me...
People in Warrenpoint are still actually talking about this one swingers party that took place in warrenpoint Castle about 6 years ago (I don't think there even was one, but rumours spread like wildfire).
Oh and the bus from Belfast Belfast Dublin is actually cheaper than one from Newry too

"I’d deffo air cnb for a good month first before jumping in. NI is quite small so if you were here for a month you would easily drive about and get a good feel for it. If relocating you shoul seriously consider transport links/ hospitals and social activities that suit you. Also your local environment if you’re ‘outdoorsy’.Don’t rule out South of Belfast even towards Newry. Halfway to Dublin for nights out and day trips if you enjoy city life, close to 2 airports. Donegal is nice if you never want to swing again
To be fair there's busses going from Belfast City centre to Dublin City centre and back every hour 24/7.
Northern Ireland is small, yes, buy its all the same island and travelling across it isn't a big issue.
You can just jump into your car and go wherever you please. Trains and busses are widely available too.
From a swinger point of view I would steer clear from smaller towns like newry as most of them have small town mentality and god forbid you're more adventurous than locals (been there done that, it's shit).

Given my race, I find big cities a better option! They tend to be more diverse! "Ireland is very multicultural now especially the large towns and cities.. Its not like 30 years ago where it was almost exclusively Irish.. Where I live there are many Africans and east Europeans and everybody gets on with life.. I'd steer clear of northern Ireland and I'll probably be roasted for this but imo it's still quite a bigoted place.. Perhaps it's a hangover of the troubles who knows.. | |||

I've made a move from Ireland to the UK and then from the UK to Ireland and can safely say Im much happier after the 2nd one I’m basically looking for somewhere with nicer people really. And a change. Now that I’m single and my kids are adults it makes sense to move! " Come to Kildare the best county in Ireland by a mile! And only 60km from Dublin.

When my kids were small we moved to Mountshannon, a small village in Co Clare right on Lough Derg with a diverse community of blowins from all over Europe, and locals, and although we moved back eventually for work and education purposes it was five years they'll never forget. A lot depends on what you bring to the party. If you're naturally a friendly, chatty and helpful person you'll do fine. I play music and felt accepted instantly, got invited to the neighbours' NYE kneesup and had an absolute blast and regular weekly sessions the whole rest of the time. What a poster said above about health services and public transport is true, it's inevitable that a sizeable country with a population less than that of greater London is going to struggle with funding public services due to low tax take. You're fucked without a car. Oh and the weather. It can be breathtakingly beautiful between the rain, but you do need to embrace the rain | |||
