Double jab doc opinion

Hi guys , I’m not sure if this is an odd place to post this , this post if medical professionals only !!!!!

Everyone is saying they are double vaccinated ….. but my understand is that vaccinated people can get and transmit Covid ?

So if you don’t feel sick it makes no difference …….you can still transmit ?

I understand having the jab means we don’t get sick …… but if I meet a heathy person for coffee that feels ok , hasn’t had the jab ….. but is positive ….. it’s the same as having coffee with a double jab person .

From my understanding it reduces your risk of infection, your body kills it quicker and that reduces the risk of spreading it.

I’m not a medical person but I am well versed on this

Just because you are vaccinated doesn’t mean you can’t get or spread covid

It simply means you yourself can fight the virus better

Meeting anyone is still a risk, meet them outside in a well ventilated area

The vaccine reduces dramatically the risk of being sick or hospitalised by the virus. It also reduces the risk of contracting or in the first place but the stats on that aren't as clear.

However, you can still pick it up and pass it on and the danger with that is that if the virus is still in circulation it is still capable of mutating, and there's always a possibility that one of these potential mutations will bypass the protection currently offered by the vaccine.

An analogy - a seat belt doesn't stop you from getting in a car accident, but it does reduce your chances of getting hurt, or dying, or hurting others in an accident. The more people who wear their seat belts, the fewer deaths and injuries there will be from car accidents, and the injuries that do occur will be less severe. Seat belt = vaccine. Covid = car accident.

Similarly, being vaccinated doesn't eliminate the possibility of transmitting the virus or getting sick from the virus, but it dramatically reduces the chances of both (and the severity of illness), because the vaccine attacks the covid virus and stops it from replicating meaning you have less of it in your system. If you have a low viral load (of any disease) your chances of transmitting it are lower.

Also, vaccination only works effectively on a group level, it's not about individual protection. If enough people are vaccinated, the virus doesn't have the chance to replicate and evolve and get stronger. This is why people don't get polio anymore, for example. It was eradicated through a vaccination programme.

But ultimately the answer to your question is yes - if YOU are not vaccinated, you are more at risk of catching Covid, from anyone. Because you're not vaccinated. Two vaccinated people are incredibly unlikely to pass it between them. So... get vaccinated.

I'm in medical. I'm a pharmacist and my current job is in medical research. What is tough about this is that it's population based medicine. If I told you a medicine was 97% effective, you'd be happy to take it. But when we give it to 100 people, that's 3 people it didn't work for. Give it to 1000 and that's 30. So when we give it to a million, there are going to be loads and loads of people with stories to tell. So their reports stand out over the vast majority of people that nothing happened to. Every side effect and break through stands out at this point. It's such a tough situation. I'm hoping for an end soon.

OP regardless of vaccinated or not vaccinated if your arranging a coffee meet with someone who is currently covid positive I suggest the two of you probably need to review your whole approach to the world around you and your lives kn general

To add to this. One one hand people love to say "I don't personally know a single person who died of covid" insinuating it's not dangerous, while also saying "a friend of a friend had X side effects to the jab" insinuating the jab is dangerous.

People will bent the truth to fit their own narrative

Stop worrying about covid and live your life...chances are as we age it will kill all of us and nothing we can do about it..
