Newry Down

If you're going to Reykjavik, you'll need to have deep pockets, as Iceland is a phenomenally expensive country, especially if you drink alcohol.

My own suggestion would be to visit some of the geothermal stations that they use to extract energy from the ground, but that an esoteric personal interest, pertaining to fossil fuels and climate change.

The remote north coast and some of the glaciers, that may disappear by the end of this century are worth seeing.

Some of their dishes, such as 'fermented' fish are probably best avoided.

Overall, be prepared for everything to cost several times what you would spend in UK and Ireland.

Check whether the aurorae in the night sky will be visible; some of the astronomical sites will provide info about the Sun's cycle of energy emissions that are visible at more northerly latitudes.

Finally, wear stout footwear; the terrain is very rugged and unforgiving.
