It was my son and his friend .. both ended up in hospital .. could have been so much worse

I hope they are OK

Surely it's possible to invent something, if not already available, that can be dipped into or added to a drink that would show up drugs (same as they do when customs check if packages contain drugs)

Hope they're both doing OK, Ohpee!

There's a test kit, by SABRE, that's available online, would fit in a wallet; small test sheets that, when a drop of your drink is added to it, changes colour if it's 'positive'

Scary to have to think about and you'd hope they'd never need used but always good to know about!

That's horrific. I hope they are doing OK now.

I can only imagine how scary it would be having unknown drugs kick in when you're not expecting it.

Was it "friends" playing a "joke" or something random?

A lot of spiking is actually extra alcohol though which won't show up in any tests
