I believe the the social construct of 'the weekend' is a product of the industrial society where the division between worktime and playtime is artificially contrived; to me every day is a blend between work, leisure, rest, study, family time, etc.

As someone who has worked 5 years of 24/7 shift work I'm quite happy enjoying my contrived weekends at the moment

Yeah it is a contrivance but don't tell me you don't feel that different buzz in the air on a Friday or Saturday and remember the soul crushing feeling of a Sunday evening back in the ol school days... and yes these exist because of contrivance but everything is contrivance

The idea of countries, nationality, human rights, money I'd all contrived but if you get rid of these we'll just contrive different things

Thanks everyone for your responses, that I knew my thoughts would elicit.

I actually work every day, but I structure each long day to include a (weekend-type) rest period.

My down time comes in small pieces daily, rather than an accumulated block, at the end of each week.
