You could fit a simple air to air heat pump, it’ll do both heating and cooling of a room

I got a Broan air conditioning unit

Installed. It draws the air from outside and controls the temperature and circulation to every room. I did it when building my house

Some do, some don’t. And yeah new houses are sealed, some form of mechanical ventilation is needed.

I use the Irish air con system...probably the least expensive on the market and doesnt cost a cent to run...extremely ecomomical ...l just open all windows and doors..just make sure you put something against the doors to stop them slamming but other than that its the real McCoy

The problem at the moment is it's dead calm.

Where I live there's a constant breeze coming straight off the mountain...nothing with every window open

Estates built after 2014-2015 are not supposed to have open fireplaces(I'll prob be corrected),one offs are allowed..it effects the ber rating massively...I this they were hoping that by 2020 most new houses would have a zero rating

You can retro fit a unit to a room which will provide cooling and heating it costs about 2k depending on the installer

But honestly in this country we hardly need it for the one or maybe two days a year where we could justify it

Another day of this weather and they will be screaming for rain

A cheaper alternative to AC, is to super-insulate the attic to prevent heat transfer downwards into the building; use blackout blinds during the daytime to prevent sunlight from entering the bedrooms in particular and finally install a large fan in the downstairs area to encourage increased air circulation at night through the open windows.

This works well for me as I am away all day, every day.

Keep all curtains and blinds closed during the day, this will minimise solar gain. Most Irish people respond to a bright sunny day by throwing curtains and windows open, understandable given the usual lack of sunshine here, but exactly the opposite of what we need to do to keep houses cool.

Yup that's the way to do it. That's why you see the shutters closed wherever you go in Italy, Spain, France etc.

Also keep a light tshirt on for sleeping, it actually keeps you cooler and less sticky than in the nude.

Anyhow temperatures are perfect at the moment, no need for ac. Loving it.

If you use MVHR and apply the summer bypass mode it will give you cold air from the outside but it's not air conditioning, however it's more applicable to the Irish climate as we only get this weather around the leaving cert and don't really have a need for AC. If you buy a new build there's a strong probability the air tightens will be lower than 3% which means you will need to have Mechanical Ventilation so if you have that just pop on the summer bypass and you will be sorted rather than recovering the existing heat in the building. If it's a retrofit you can get a vent that will need to be wired in but it will suck fresh air into your house every 70 seconds and for 70 seconds it will blow back in warm air which is being heated by the air being pushed out as theirs a ceramic disk in the vent that heats up as the air is being pushed out so realistically if you want constant airflow throughout your house in a retrofit that's an option but your not going to be able to install it over the next week so what I would recommend is open a window in the front of your house and open one in the back of your house which will cause a negative vacuum and will suck the air out with a constant air flow. It will also work if you have condensation in your house open 2 windows. Do that before your drill a hole in your wall causing an extra ope that you may have to fill in the future as they cost about €200 to be done correctly however its free to open a window. Hopefully my ramblings hope someone

To many houses are over insulated can no ventilation causing them to over heat. You need a radiant barrier in which most don’t have, it in a building wrapped in foils and it’s nice and cool,
