40lb is too much in that space of time, particularly for your build.

its way to aggressive and you will only gain it back on after the fact.

Consider the intermittent fasting. Pick one day a week, day a Tuesday, don’t eat anything from 9pm Monday night. You’ll wake up Wednesday morning feeling super. Soft breakfast like porridge. Once you commit to day it’s not that hard. Loads of water. It works and it’s good for the body to go through periods of hunger. Gives your organs a break!

Davy, I think that only works with people already agood ways through the losing weight journey or for healthy fit folk (no disrespect to anyone ment)

People imo would probably feel that as a starvation approach and would struggle with it.

I struggle like fuck to be honest

I lost a couple of stone a long time ago but put it all back on again

I know I comfort eat and when I was working 3 or 4 nights a week it was fine I didn't eat. But being at home nights the last 16 months has mentally fucked me up which means I eat even more ( just trying to be honest )

I've actually put aside the money to have surgery but don't know if I can do it or not.

Just so you know WW this thread and another fabbers encouragement made me try again.

I got home last night at 10 and went for a walk intead of putting on the kettle and making toast

One day at a time I suppose

Intermittent fasting can be a fantastic approach, not only for weight loss! My mother, who is now 76 has used intermittent fasting (there are different approaches and time frames which can be used!), and lost a substantial amount of weight AND managed to be rid of injecting insulin as a type 2 diabetic AND has improved her kidney values. She's been living the intermittent fasting lifestyle for a few years now. This is someone who was told 14 years ago, she'd be on dialysis in less than 5! She's still going strong without

I don't mean to, perhaps I worded it wrongly.

I mean if someone starts with this approach it can feel like they are starving themselves for the day and as a result will find it difficult as opposed to seeing it as a healthy choice

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT indulge in the sugar free boiled sweets that they keep near the till at Lidl.

They may taste delicious and low calorie, but they contain sugar-alcohol. Which isn't quite sugar, isn't quite alcohol, but eat an entire box of them and they become an extremely powerful laxative.

I try and train or go for a long walk. If you can stay out of kitchen for those two crucial hours, 6-8, come home, shower, wash your teeth and be in bed before 11you won’t feel it. My energies levels are super. Remember your body isn’t using energy to digest the food so ironically you have great energy. But it’s crucial that you do not eat a little bit or the process is doomed!! All or nothing! Trust me, it’s worth trying. Anyway, as a population we all eat too much. Save the planet!

I know a lot of eating is due to habit. My concern would be that I wouldn't be able for a day's work without food. I usually find I'm getting light headed by 11 or 12 if I haven't eaten anything.

The body will start to kick into reserves, probably a bit early to be dizzy by 11! Our bodies are supposed to go through periods of hunger, cells repair and reserves of fat are burnt.

Our bodies are supposed to go through periods of hunger, cells repair and reserves of fat are burnt."

I feel physically sick when I go too long without food, I couldn't do it. Only times I have done it was when I had forced starvation on me before surgery and it was horrible. I turned I to a demon

"Consider the intermittent fasting.

Ah here, big difference between hunger and starvation!! Seriously, you are mis quoting my intention.

I don't mean to, perhaps I worded it wrongly.

I mean if someone starts with this approach it can feel like they are starving themselves for the day and as a result will find it difficult as opposed to seeing it as a healthy choice

I get you. It’s just you feel so good the next day it might start that way of running out food needs.

The historic ulcer gives me some concern as well. I might give it a go one of these days and see what happens though.

Ah here, big difference between hunger and starvation!! Seriously, you are mis quoting my intention.

Is it something she came up with via trial and error or something she got from her doctor ..hopefully you don't mind me asking "

Not at all!

The problem my mother faced was that with both problems - Type 2 diabetes and being on the brink of kidney failure, she's supposed to be eating certain foods and steering clear of certain foods. Unfortunately the foods which are good for one thing were bad for the other and vice versa. She's done a lot of research in the last number of years and has tried various approaches. The intermittent fasting, which not everyone would advise a diabetic to do, for obvious reasons! has been promoted by various doctors. She wasn't necessarily advised by her own specialists but read into it, informed herself and took an active approach.

There are doctors out there who will state that acquired type 2 diabetes which has not gone too far, CAN be reversed by diet. My mother is living proof of it. As well as her kidneys having seriously benefited... this is my mother's experience without the advice of a consulting doctor, though she would inform her "team" of what she's doing. Anyone with a medical condition, should take medical advice in my opinion.

BS...your body uses energy to function even sleep...and eating is a job your body needs to function...you burn calories eating hencevsome foods ya actually burn more calories just consuming them like leafy greens like spinach for example....at the end of the day if you feel like its helping you to fast....then go for it....but myself i prefer to eat atleast 3-5 meals a day and keep my levels balanced through out the day and not force feed myself in a few hr window like these fasting diets.....theres no real benifit from fasting...you wont lose more fat and weight by doing so....its all about putting yourself in a deficit through out on a week by week basis....3500 calories = 1lb of bodyweight....then you have water weight and glucogen which will fluctuate your own weight so its best to weigh yourselves over a few times during the week and work out the average.

Keep things as simple as possible....dont change your whole food regime...a little here and there...smarter,healthier chooses...lower calorie options...low fat yogurts and the lowest calorie sauces like ketchup can add up

I 100% agree, its a lifestyle, can you diet forever? Not likely as you will feel like you are depriving yourself.

Although I stepped away from carbs (almost entirely) and fruit from 3 or 4 pieces a day to one excluding strawberries and added shitloads of veg, fish, chicken and a weekly lump of steak.

Watch the calories and if you feel like a choc bar or a bag of crisps have them. Just don't have them every day lol.

Let’s keep it polite! No need for BS!

First off this was a discussion in relation to people trying to lose weight. If you are a person with ideal weight, physically active, train, whatever then of course you need to eat enough cals. My point is that many people eat way too much food than is required. Also fasting gives your organs a break from processing various goods including highly processed food. By drinking plenty of water this can flush your organs and keep everything regular.

It’s just my experienced opinion, only trying to help OP!

My typical dinner is veg say broccoli, peas, carrots and sweetcorn and fish/chicken/steak.

If I do want carbs like bread I buy Brennan's "be good" brand 60kcals a slice instead of typical 100kcal types.

If I want spuds I have 3 or 4 baby spuds instead of the 1/3 of plate portion that I used to have.

The key for me is the quantity of veg, I pile it onto the plate.

I don't have any qualifications but this has worked for me

Rice is calorie dense so the best advise is to weight out your food....that how you know what the calorie intake is.... them 4 carb'd foods are good for you...its the likes of sugary stuff thatll raise your insulin levels and spike your blood sugar...keep the sweets to a minimium and have em now n then...your allowed a treat....

Portion out your food....may it be a carb,a protien or a fat based food....plenty of fibre helps too

One day at a time I suppose"

"Do not, I repeat, DO NOT indulge in the sugar free boiled sweets that they keep near the till at Lidl.

They may taste delicious and low calorie, but they contain sugar-alcohol. Which isn't quite sugar, isn't quite alcohol, but eat an entire box of them and they become an extremely powerful laxative.

Where were you when I learned that lesson about a year ago

As far away as possible is the correct answer "

Luckily I was back home already when I learned it. Alternating between the two bathrooms, to give the cisterns time to refill.

You do realise that carbs are the fastest form of energy....you ever get your blood work done?u shouldnt be feeling sluggish or no energy....the opposite tbh.

Everyone bloats when the eat sure....takes a bit of time for food to digest....is it because portion ways carbs and protein can be larger and less caloric than fat?me personally...i like to eat...so my portions can be big....but still keep the calories in check majority of the time....ya gotta enjoy yourself now n then and not beat yourself up....baby steps folks....its not a sprint... its your whole life so try and enjoy yourselves and indulge now n then

Join a gym for classes/ a PT or a sports club if you are struggling with the self motivation aspect of things. I don't buy into the benefits of an online PT.

Nutrition advice is just about starting simple. Starting cooking your own meals and cut down on the refined sugar source.

Same for me. I snack at night time.

My goal is to lose 40lb by my birthday in September.

I honestly can’t see from your photos where the extra 40lbs is . Maybe it was a typo and you meant 4 lbs ?

40lb is too much in that space of time, particularly for your build.

its way to aggressive and you will only gain it back on after the fact.

I'd be happy with losing 20lb. As long as I'm losing it. "

As all other food related netflix documentaries it cherry picks it's research to suit it's narrative. Yes we should all be eating more plant based & cutting out as much processed foods as possible but I am losing the will to live, fixing digestive issues, and nutrient deficiencies coming from people going vegan and overall fixing peoples mindset & relationship with food, coming from dietculture in general. One thing that struck me in this swinging journey and was so fantastic is people's body positivity, people of all shapes and sizes being confident in their own skin and loving their bodies for what it can do is so refreshing and the sexiest thing. There is no one diet to suit everyone.
