"Home? Really? Wtf?

Agreed

We're still hearing about 1966 FFS

George Hamilton mentioned this evening that England have only ever reached 3 semi finals since.

Kinda surprised me because the way the English talk, you'd think they were regular winners.

Not that we are in any position to slag them off though.

Tonight's match, even with 4 goals, has to have been one of the most boring Euro games I've watched though.

Looking forward to Denmark putting up a proper challenge.

Not a soccer fan but if it's a good game, I don't care who wins

As long as it's Denmark

On the football... You can't read anything into last night's match. England dispatched the weakest team in the quarterfinals well. However, the remaining teams are a class (or 2) above that. In saying that England shouldn't fear Denmark and I'd be quietly confident of them making the final. It won't be easy the Danes are a good team and recent events are the kind of things that galvanize teams ( let's not forget the Danish-Iceland connections either- we all know what happened last time).

If they make the final I think it's hard to look beyond Italy. They've looked a class act all through the tournament. I just feel England might come up short. I hope I'm wrong.

On the comments here.... I totally except the style of football is not an advert for the beautiful game (or at least not for the uninitiated). It's a far cry from some of the swashbuckling/kamikaze football seen in the past.

It's also perfectly reasonable for a country that has access to/saturated but a neighbour's media to develop some level of resentment.

However, I expected some level of compassion from the clapped out- cliche ridden quarter. I thought they'd appreciate the royalty cheque coming their way every time the line "30 years of hurt" gets played

True but someone had to host it and logistically they needed it sorted beforehand.

Actually all 4 semi-finalists played their group games at home. So possibly some advantage there.

I'm a self respecting Irish man and I've got family and friends born and bred in England so I'll be happy enough to see them win for their sakes.

I've no Italian connections at all so why would I cheer for them unless it was just good old Irish begrudgery?

I've supported Leeds all my life and I'm happy for Kalvin Phillips especially in the face of those who doubted his ability.

I've also supported the Republic of Ireland team through thick and thin. I've supported Northern Ireland for as long as I can remember when they are playing anyone apart from the Republic and cheered as loud as anyone when Gerry Armstrong put the ball in the Spanish net in Espana 82.

At the same time I know lots of people who refuse to acknowledge the Northern Ireland team and the conversation always turns political.

I've lived in Northern Ireland for 56 years and I know all about politics and it has no place in sport and it's hilarious when people in their 20s and 30s start preaching about history because they read it in a book.

I wouldn't proud of what they did against Danish team. It was completely not acceptable

First of all booing for national anthem and laser light on the player.

That free kick was not at all necessary when you clearly see from VAR

It should have been going to penalty and you know how would win in the penalty

The team should not proud and they should be ashamed of their behavior

I hope Italy will win the final

In fairness to Mr Southgate and the players this generation actually seems to be quite a bunch of gentlemen and they would be quite gracious in victory as well as defeat.

Now the fans, that’s another story.
