Are you a cat or a dog person and why?

I'm a dog person - dogs are loyal and joyful (depending how you raise them).

Cats? I'm just scared of their claws. Way too unpredictable for my liking. Nice to look at and not much else

Dog people here. Jay has had dogs for as long as he can remember. Currently have a jack Russell labador Cross. Can't stand cats as think of them as disloyal creatures.

I have dogs and love them they make me smile every day.

I also like cats though they can be great characters .

But I'd pick to have a dog over a cat any day if I had to choose.

Don’t have either but I’d prefer dogs over cats. My brother got a dog during lockdown and she’s a dote of a thing.

Both. I can't say I like one more than the other. They both have great things about them and also bad things.

However, I kinda have that uncle feeling towards them. I love them, I will play with, cherish them, but the moment they make a mess or annoy me, I'll just hand them back to their parents. Hahahahaha

I prefer cats probably bcos we always had cats growing up. I'm guessing I would prefer dogs if it was the other way around.

But cats are great. They're not as needy as dogs, much more independent, and great for cuddles.

Definitely dogs! We currently have a lhasa apso and there was always dogs around when I was growing up.

Cats are constantly plotting the downfall of the human race in my opinion.

Also the thoughts of them using a litter tray and jumping on to kitchen surfaces just freaks me out.

Cat unt Doggo are the both bueno.

Dogs it's obvious why they are good. Fun, loyal, always in a good mood.

Cats take time to appriciate, very differnt personalities. I've also noticed they pretend that they don't like to be around you but then if you go outside or something like that. After a few min they are sitting nearby..but still pretending they don't care hahaha. But they do.

I like both but if we have to choose, it's cats all day every day. Cats just give you that healthy relationship type of love, look after my basic needs and we're set. They dont need to be up in your grill 24/7, you can have a cuddle but also sit in the same room and not talk and its fine. You can go out for the afternoon, they'll be grand and they won't hold it against you either. With cats you also have the ultimate understanding that if youre an asshole to them they will scratch or bite you and if you continue to be an ass hole, they'll leave you for someone else. I think that's great, boundaries are good for everybody!

I dont get why people hate them so much, realistically of you have such disdain for a living creature, it's you that has the issues, not them...

Have both cat and dog and they get on OK.. Dog is great for barking at strangers or strange cars near the house.. Keeps great watch over the place.. The cat sleeps in the utility room.. Don't even have to open a door to let him in or out as he climbs in the window whenever he pleases.. He also keeps the rats in check.. They both have great qualities

Nothing like the feeling of a cat purring on your chest. Instant relaxer!

Dogs are great for notifying you of anyone approaching the territory but all the barking, and the hairfall, drives me crazy.

I'm a cat person but I also love dogs. As far as having my own dog as a pet, they're too high energy and high maintenance for me tbh. I really enjoy the company of a cat, they're independent and yes they can be standoffish but there's no better feeling once they choose you as their person! I got a cat at the start of lockdown last year and she's been the best company, although she's absolutely cracked

Years ago I rescued a stray kitten, had him for a bit, but because I already had a dog, guinea pig and a budgie - keeping another pet was just too much.

My aunt fell in love with the kitten so naturally she adopted him.

That woman loves cats and had them all her life - it was the perfect home for him.

Cat grew up to be some demonic creature.

He used to horizontally run across all walls (thick wallpaper was his favourite to dig his claws in).

He was attacking people for no reason (calmly sitting on a sofa, then out of nowhere you have your hands and legs cut open by sharp claws and teeth).

He hung out on curtains. Just crawled up and hung there for no reason.

His litter box was in the bathroom. God help you if you needed to pee when he was there - he would jump on your head and dig his claws in.

After years and years of living in fear of their own cat they had to put him down as my aunt lived with her elderly mother, who wasn't fit to get cut open on a daily basis and nobody wanted to take on the demon cat.

So that's my closest experience of being a cat owner(ish).

Many of my family and friends cats don't even go near me (fine by me). A lot of them hiss, bite or claw me for being nearby. And max 10 cats I've come across in my whole life have been cuddly and friendly.

My job involves meeting a lot of people and their pets. Out of hundreds of dogs I get to pet and get in contact with - only one has been aggressive towards me - a complete stranger.

Yes, dogs bark, but that's the hight of it. They calm down as soon as they see that you mean no harm to them or their owners

The cultural nonsense that cats are disloyal really unrevs my engine!

People think because a cat isn't all over you like a clingy freak that they're unloving.. they're just not attention seeking personality vacuums like dogs

And before all the dog weirdos get on me do this experiment... Watch a dog when their favoured owner/master/alpha whatever leaves for the day

It's like they have a mental breakdown and just walkabout like they're shell shocked or go to standby mode in their bed. You can literally see there brain short circuit. V little personality outside of the primary bond

Meanwhile the cat will sit there with a pair of shades on or something and not give two fucks. Playing chess. The Steve McQueens of 4 legged friends imo

Ps I've had dogs and cats and loved them all.

Cats are vintage Michael Jackson before the well, you know...

While dogs are the Michael Jackson from the Simpson's episode

Not every cat person is like that though..

Many cat people are convinced that dogs are too needy.

You can train a dog not to be needy, you can also train a cat not to be aggressive. Both require patience which most people aren't prepared to devote.

I think bottom line is that most dog people just don't feel safe around cats.

Think my personal fear is justified as not one dog has ever hurt me while I still carry actual scars from other people's bad tempered cats.

Have both.

I live in the countryside so cats are essential. Have a few and they're nice enough.

Also have a rottweiler who is the happiest, friendliest family dog ever.

They both keep the various vermin off the property

We've had all our cats but one since birth. Every single one of them is sweet natured and extremely loving. We spend a huge amount of time socialising them and interacting with them. Those that have gone to new homes stayed with their mum til they were 12 weeks old. So many are removed at 8 weeks but that extra 4 weeks with mum are really beneficial when it comes to their behaviours and social skills. Yes they're a bit crazy and funny and like some time alone, and they will lash out if they feel scared or threatened, but if you take your lead from them they reward you with so much love and loyalty.
