Cork County

Heading to Galway for a few days just after the bank holiday

Any recommendations of things to do or places to eat

Jon used live there but it's been a long time since we have walked the streets of Galway

Under normal circumstances the arts festival and possibly the sea festival would be on

But this year is Different

Shop street , the west end near roisin Dubh and Salthill all excellent choice

Dining depends on your budget . Kai always superb

Was never the biggest fan of the roisin dubh area , but that's the area where we will staying so might have to get to like it

Other than shop street it might be one of the few areas set up for outdoor drinks and dining as I believe they are looking at closing the road to traffic and pedestrianising temporarily

Nearer the time will post some events that might be on

Not to try to get to meet you ! Just because Galway truly rocks and needs its tourists to enjoy themselves and keep coming back

City Centre

These are some of our favourite spots:

And Bia at Nimmos for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Dela for Breakfast

Kai

Cava Bodega for tapas

Tigh Neachtain for food and drink

If you fancy a drive get out to Barna..The Twelve hotel, Donnelly's and O'Gradys on the Pier are a must visit. If you like seafood O'Gradys is just amazing.

I'd recommend a trip to Clifden or even Oughterard...many pubs & restaurants in Clifden. Oughterard is a small quaint little village

There is a recently restored part of the old railway line near Mamm Cross with several miles of track so you can now take a steam train ride through part of Connemara. Roundstone is lovely. Great seafood. Renvyle house hotel is lovely too. Take a drive to Killary harbour and have lunch at the Misunderstood Heron about two miles before Leenan

Theres talks of them covering quay Street so rain or shine should be good down there. Hard to find a bad place for food in Galway! That's coming from a cork guy who moved here lol

Around

For nature, I would recommend Diamond Hill; a moderate hike up but definitely worth it.

If you like the beach, Tracht near Kinvara is a lovely beach for a swim...you'd need a wetsuit!

Then further on is Ballyvaughan; lovely seafood at Monk's

I realise you are from Dublin and Irish towns may seem very small by comparison, but "Oughterard a small quaint little village" ??? C'mon. A small town, yes, but definitely more than a village. Which is not to say it's not worth visiting - it is.

I would love to visit Galway again the night life is just amazing although things have changed since then so who knows what it will be like in August probably more outdoors drinking no live music though except for everyone carrying around JBL speakers
