I genuinely thought that the Lisdoonvarna (match making festival) faded out decades ago, after having been at its peak in the 1950s and '60s.

RTE featured the festival, on the Reeling in the Years programmes; lonely farmers looking for someone to replace their ageing mammies.

Famous advert, allegedly from Irish Farmers Journal:

Bachelor dairy farmer(50) seeks female companion from farming background. Please send photograph of tractor.
