Road Trip Advice

Looking at a road trip later in the year. Covid permitting.

Coming in via Belfast .

Not stoppin at hotels. But need a good list of places to visit ( bit different ideas) & eat. Planning north coast around to west coast as far as Sligo.

Coast road is pretty awesome all way up coast. Places like glenarrif etc on way up. Nice waterfalls and forests and stuff if like stuff like that. Then north coast got cause way and Carrick a rede and castles and dark hedges and all that

When you get to breakfast take the coast road up the Antrim coastline . Lots of scenery carrickfergus ballycastle giants causeway bushmills distillery. Use the coast as much as possible all the way around to sligo. Derry city is nice and coleraine. The west coast through donegal is gorgeous with islands. Don't miss killybegs fishing port then donegal town and finish in lovely sligo. Good luck

Bushmills Hotel near Giant's Causeway do great food. Dunluce Castle is close by, well worth a visit. The walls of Derry. Sleive League Cliffs in Donegal, Mullaghmore beach sligo

If you are coming in via Belfast, consider a visit to the Ards Peninsula, starting in Bangor and going down through Groomsport, Ballyhalbert, Millisle, Portavogie, Kearney village and crossing over on the car ferry between Strangford and Portaferry.

From there, you get an excellent view of the Mourne Mountains, the highlight being Tollymore Forest Park that has excellent facilities and superb ambience. Nearby Castlewellan Forest Park is very good too.

Nearby Newcastle town has been significantly improved in recent years.

If you intend to cross the River Foyle, into Donegal, then Fanad Head and the area around Port na Blagh is scenic.

The City of Derry has the most extensive walls and the most complete of any city in Europe. Although they were closed off for decades, access is now unhindered.
