Apparently it was the worst year in humanity. What was your worst? 1999 for me when I lost my father and my baby girl.

Belfast

Hard to differentiate as it more a period of time rather than a specific year. Most of the 80's in fact.

Between 1983 and 1989 I lost both maternal grandparents, an aunt, two uncles a cousin and my dad.

I had been a carer to my grandparents and the cousin from the age of 12 so I grew up very quickly and have absolutely no idea what it is like to have been a teenager.

1990, I was 15 and lost my dad. Shit few years after that, a lot of self destructive behavior followed.

My entire life between 8th May 2001 and October 2005. The night my (now ex) husband told me he didn't love me any more set off a chain of events and self destructive behaviours that resulted in 4 years of my life being a total train wreck. But it culminated in the birth of my amazing first born child in 2005 and, despite the most horrendous shit I put myself and my family through, for that I'll be forever thankful.

Reading these just makes you realise you never know what’s going on in someone’s life and the struggles they are going through, all the more to go out of your way today to do kind or something nice for someone

Spread the love Friday

1998

I lost 2 friends (2brothers) to suicide

My girlfriend (future wife) attempted suicide after suffering severe post natal depression which resulted in psychiatric care for months.

I was 21 with a new born, working nights.

Only for the help of family i would've been lost.

I have a tattoo on my back of a design i used to scribble at work at the time, its a head/face being pulled in all directions. Thats how i felt, being pulled every which way..

I was battling depression , my marriage ended, I had no job, my mother was diagnosed with dementia and my father coped with that by descending into alcoholism. At the time my children were 7,10,and 13

Reading this I realise I have had a charmed life, what I perceived as problems or difficulties pail into insignificance, other than offering some support there is little I or others can do the ease the pain, suffering , or memories of all that have shared.

Thank you for sharing & reminding us that there are others worse off.
