cork

Strawberries, potatoes, cabbage (red and green), turnips, radishes, Brussels sprouts, peas and the tomatoes and cucumbers are yet to go out. That’s not to mention the fruit bushes and trees

Dipping the toe in this year

What herbs grow easily outside without protection?

Mint, sage, thyme and oregano grow like , rosemary easy enough in a sunny spot or chives in a pot. Tricky are basil and parsley. Dill was a hit and miss so far. Haven't tried yet coriander.

in the waves

I really only do flowers and herbs. Basil works best indoors in a sunny spot. But outside I do rosemary, mint, fennel, scallions. This year I'm also trying dill and garlic chives.

Basil doesn't like strong direct sun light, parsley I haven't found out yet, the others all do.

Anyone keen on top fruit; Jargonelle flowered beautifully this year, and planted four cultivars last year in new raised bed: Kordia, Lapin's (Cherokee) and Sunburst to complement Sylvia and Compact Stella, the latter sourced from specialist nursery on Isle of Wight.

Boysenberry, Tay and Waldo also growing very well.

I renovated my gardens over ten years with massive input of kelp and laminaria; plants literally jump out of the soil!

As with all long-term projects preparation, and preplanning and prevention of damage are the key to exceptional yields.

Peas, broccoli, tomatoes, rocket, French beans are all potted on in the grow house. Spuds are in buckets outside. Second year of gooseberry, blueberry, raspberry & blackberries bushes so I'm expecting fruit on them this year (buds visible). I've rosemary, thyme, sage & parsley in pots outside. I failed with coriander last year, it doesn't like it too moist.
