Just had my smear test and found myself prepping like it was a hot date. Nice underwear, trimmed v, legs shaved etc... it's the closest thing to any action I've had in a long time!!

She ended up using three different speculum so it was basically a gangbang....

Breakfast was Yoghurt, granola and coffee

Well done on going for Smear during this ongoing pandemic as many others will probably not attend appointments and could miss out on any early problem detections. Also great to see that the service is still being fully offered

The whole process I think has improved over the years however not to sure about them now not calling people for 5 years if smear is clear.

Now let's hope the sti home test gets rolled out for the whole country

My daughter had a smear recently and was in tears afterwards .The person doing it was only new and was a bit rough.

They are zero craic tbh, especially if they use the wrong speculum, it is genuinely painful and uncomfortable. Thankfully it really only takes a few minutes and once you know what's involved it's a little less scary! I hope her experience won't put her off!

I'm amazed that it still to be a painful and uncomfortable experience for women

I remember nearly 40 yrs ago having to go into the family planning clinic in cathal bruagh street to hold my girlfriends hand as she found them so distressing

I'm fighting with mine to even book in to get mine done. Fair play for getting sorted

It shouldn't be scary or uncomfortable. It really Annoys me that they didn't develop another effective way of doing this testing on women. I kind of think this was initially created, this way, by men obsessed with the female genitalia and its intrusive observation.

I have mine on Monday. I have to go annually as I nearly always have abnormal smears. I even noticed the new chair they got when I was up last year

I normally don’t ever have an issue with getting them, but the one last year hurt like a mofo.

But it won’t put me off having them.

Never bothered me.

Relaxing is key. I get that like anything some people are better at doing them than others and so can make it a less uncomfortable experience.

Vital test. Way less traumatic than the potential treatment needed if abnormal cells go undetected

Had one recently and was relieved to find the turnaround for results has massively improved from the 8 fucking months I had to wait last time

A friend of mine had hers recently & reported back that her doctor warmed up the speculum & their hands with warm water. Said it made a huge difference to her comfort levels. Small things can really help make it a less uncomfortable experience.

That's crazy I was onto my doc about something separate and she asked me had I booked it.

I always take ibuprofen before mine. Something about it relaxes the muscles, so it doesn’t feel as bad. It could be all in my head of course, but I’ve to have them 6 monthly for the foreseeable

Yyeeeeshh!! Hope yer ok. I had them 6mthky for a few yrs too until a colposcopy showed it was scar tissue. Been fine since then.

I don’t find them sore just uncomfortable. Wiggle your toes abd it’s usually over pretty quickly.

ah smears. Nothing like having the equivalent of kitchen utensil been shoved up there. every female doctor that has done them for me has left me in bits. my last one was done by my own doctor (male) and i barely felt it. still hate them though

Thanks I’m ok now. A few uncomfortable procedures to remove the offending cells and I’m on the mend!

Lesson learned though, don’t put off a smear just because you’re embarrassed!
