Teachers agreeing to joint industrial action over vaccination lists and where they think they should be on it.

No anger or apologies (to my knowledge) of the teachers of st Gerards when they jumped the queue, these teachers should be a shining example to our kids, but once again wanting it every way.

Ah sweet Jesus....I'm sorry but I think they are bloody ridiculous. I work in a supermarket, have worked through the craziness at the start, the madness of Christmas, the stupidity of people. I've not had the choice to work from home, to take time off and receive full pay or covid payment. God knows when I'll be eligible for the vaccine but have to be front and centre with people passing in front of me continuously. I don't act like I am more deserving and should go to the front of the list. A total pet peeve of mine....

The teachers where still working when the schools where closed ?

Ask yourself these questions?

Would you be happy sitting in a room with 30 other different people for 5-6 a day, without been vaccinated?

Are you happy sending your child to school with teachers and other children who have not been vaccinated?

Who you do there job with no vaccine

The teachers are not the problem. It’s the government. Why should I receive a vaccine as a 39 year old working from home with no apparent risk ahead of a 38 year old teacher or any other front line worker with higher exposure to the virus complete madness

Its a hard one to call......we are all crying for schools to get back and running without any interruption.....this isn't going to happen soon. So maybe if they get their vaccines there is a chance come September the schools will get a full year without having to close at all

My interactions with teachers for my kids has been less than satisfactory, from teacher telling my 6 six year old he's in the school play to changing her mind next day, giving out treats to class but not hsving enough for everyone are just two examples. They have been fully paid through this pandemic and not worked for most of it. Id gladly swap with them, entitled idiots for me and for those who support them most likely are one or has one in the family. Some are decent majority are not in my view.

I actually think if the rest of the rollout works the teachers will be done before the end of the summer anyway.

SNA's work closer with kids and I dont see the teachers shouting for them either.

In my opinion there are groups that should be prioritised like Guards, shop workers but if its quicker to get more done faster the way they've chosen then lets get it done

I would say a 65 year old shop worker is more entitled to a vaccine before a 38 year old or 23 year old teacher.

They were working yes...from home.

Sure the children aren't going to be vaccinated so what's the point? The teachers wil be ok but you don't care the children are in a room with 30 others?

I do my job not vaccinated, on a checkout or a self scan area, people in your face, hundreds passing everyday, coming in shopping in groups (mum, dad, kids because it takes 3 or 4 people to do a shop), trying to stop people coming into an overfilled shop and they ignoring a massive sign with a red light saying stop, do not enter. Directing people to where to queue and not stand waiting for a checkout on someone else heels... everyone has to deal with risks and problems in their "essential jobs"

The question is where do you stop with prioritising certain professions? We will head into endless bureaucracy with the vaccine rollout instead of getting on with it. The Chileans have taken the straight forward approach of strictly going by age after the health workers were vaccinated. They are now one of the fastest vaccinating nations. Why should a healthy 30 year old teacher or garda get prioritised over a 60 year old post office worker working in a very confined space with a constant flow of people coming in? Just get on with it!!!!!

I'm not a fan of teacher's in general but let's be honest if it's such a handy job why aren't you all teacher's ?? That's right because it's a shit job. Look at all the whinging that was done because of home learning imagine trying to teach 30 kids. People want schools open so their little shites won't be under their feet all day but don't want teachers vaccinated. I don't know what the problem is ? Teachers (public schools), guards ,army ,fire services should all have been vaccinated from the start.

Exactly, everyone is the priority in their own mind. Age and certain pre-existing conditions are the factors known to place individuals at high risk of death or serious illness from Covid. Once the most vulnerable are done, the rest of the population should be done by descending age.

The problem is that once you start that where will it stop, Shop workers, Meat Factories, etc.

Do it by age and the risk of hospitalisation and death are reducing all the time and were not wasting time arguing about who deserves it more.

This! I so agree, I don't think I should be prioritised over an elderly person cocooning at home, or someone who isn't well. My best friend (who has cancer and still getting chemo) said she would rather I get vaccinated before her! Not on your bloody nelly, I'd rather those most vulnerable get theirs so they can at least leave their homes! I'll take my chances, do my job, wash my hands, wear my mask etc etc...and when I'm eligible, great. If they just bloody moved on with it we will all be happier.

Amazing load of sh1t put on teachers unfairly when you consider the real truth is parents can't parent their own kids and expect teachers to fill in that role.

No one noticed the 'mental health' issues of parents that couldn't actually deal with having their own kids around 24/7 and demanded schools to reopen whatever the consequences and banging on their TD's doors???

Government under pressure because guess who votes and who needs to stay in power? So do not come here whinging about teachers when you're knocking out kids blotto yourselves and you can't be arsed parenting or schooling youself.

Teachers are not your surrogates.

Kids get up for school and don't come home until 5pm. They eat and then they're fcked out until dark because parents watching TV, on social media moaning about other parents or advertising how great they are, usually at the pub, the bookies, the restaurant, their mates with wine at 7pm until blackout...so where is their children in all of that? Oh wait, boy scouts, cubs, sports training, snooker halls, street corners, parks, everywhere else but with their family.

And then when schools are opened, all parents congregated outside like idiots still blaming others for virus spread and taking multiple kids home in their cars to multiple families.

What teacher needs to deal with that sh1te???

And who said teachers do not stand up for sna's??? Cop on. The last battle teachers stood up for was equal pay for NEW teachers to bring entrants immediately up to their pay level even if they have spent 25 years building their own career, so it's not their job to educate your kids AND battle for everyone else. Get off their backs.

Typical Irish begrudgery and ignorance. Blame others for your own sh1te and throw responsibility on those when you don't handle your own, and then blame others for it all?

You're not a part of society? But you'll all do a walk for charity with instagram poses of how great you are on social media and big grinny smiles, while teachers lose the plot with stress coping with their own family with 30+ children in their class or providing zoom lessons from their own home, and no vaccination priority? Do they not have vulnerability issues?

You pack of absolute gobshites, We're fcking done with this cesspit website. This pandemic certainly showed us the stupidity and ignorance of you all, no wonder why your kids are fcked up.

Well done the shop staff all around the world have been amazing. There be more people go through a petrol station in 10 minutes than the whole school. Teachers just want to have an excuse to sit at home with full pay again and when the elrecieve the vaccine it will end up they want more pay or they want more holidays and will go for industrial strike anyway. Iv more respect for the guards than teachers

I don't think I've ever read such a load of ill-informed, self entitled tosh in my time on Fab, and I've read some shite.

The irony is absolutely staggering. Moaning about how shite teachers are while at the same time finding fault with the smallest of issues when you were forced into a situation when you had to take on a minute part of what teachers do. It would be laughable if it wasn't so goddamned sad.

I wonder how many of you bellyaching about teachers have ever spent time in a school seeing what goes on behind the scenes? How many of you have actually sat down with a teacher to resolve the issues you have? How many of you actually attempted to work in partnership with your child's school? How many of you have volunteered your time to help in a school?

As for the OP saying you'd gladly swap with a teacher? You wouldn't last a week.

And no I'm not a teacher, nor do I have one in my family.

I really can't see what's so difficult about being a teacher.. They start at 9am.. Most people start work at 8 and then you have people who start at 6 so that's another thing they have going for them.. They walk into a classroom project their voices on top of students.. Most roar and shout and read of a text book.. Write a few things on a board.. Give exams walk around in silence.. Its not a difficult job and they get paid generously for the work that they do.. And then they cry about marking exam papers at home after work oh like that's so difficult.. Most sit with a glass of wine while doing it.. Then 3 months paid holidays every year now they really can't complain about anything when they have conditions like that.. Its a lazy person's Job.. Unfortunately the lazier a person is they more they whinge and moan which is why we hear of an industrial disbute every year with teacher unions.. The unions have made it far too easy.. My Jesus you really haven't a clue. Teachers have to work in tandem with SNAs or take on their role dealing with some children with disabilities or learning difficulties. To be a primary teacher either by doing an undergraduate degree or a two-year postgraduate Professional Master of Education (PME). They have to deal with psychological issues with children and very often be the person to liaise with social workers principles parents and a host of other professionals when called upon. You post above has shown you to be narrow minded AGAIN and absolutely clueless. Have youbeen in a classroom in the last 20/30 years or do you get all your information from your imaginary friends who always seem to give you false information

Lugging blocks across a building site while have someone roar at you is difficult work both mentally and physically.. A teacher wouldn't last 10 minutes at that.. Poor snowflakes.. "

Have youbeen in a classroom in the last 20/30 years or do you get all your information from your imaginary friends who always seem to give you false information "

I remember from my school days 20 years ago and that's how it was.. In the school I attended there was no special needs students only 1 teacher with special needs and 30 students looking on perplexed as an overpaid tyrant roared at them

It's a completely different world now. It's actually not even comparable with ten years ago when it comes to the amount of other considerations in the classroom. That said I would be absolutely disgusted if they went in strike when people in supermarkets/factories etc aren't even mentioned. The decision not to bump them up the list now is risk based and right now it is extremely low risk when compared to other sectors not even mentioned in the rollout. I cannot see this ending well for teachers if they strike when others have sacrificed so much more

I actually think the risk of contracting covid for teachers is quite high.. 31 people packed into a small classroom is a recipe for disaster.. They are right to be concerned and probably should be bumped up the list.. My issue was more with the general working conditions of teachers which I think are quite favourable..

Who knows? Some might not want the vaccine, hopefully most will have it by then, surely all the older teachers will who are more at risk of getting severly sick from covid. So are all others of the same age regardless of their job or status. Prioritising only causes bad blood as we can see on this thread.

A friend of mine is a teacher. She is nearly 60 and covers people who are out sick and she is flooded with calls to cover young teachers who are out with covid! She has been vaccinated and said there is no stopping kids from interacting from juniors to leaving cert. They're heads are not in the same space as ours.

I think that the gov and hse have had ample time to have all teachers vaccinated and as getting schools reopened was a priority that they and society set then the safety of those doing it should have been a priority. Those arguing about putting a teacher over a health compromised person of any age...I am sorry but sadly if they are such a high risk, they need to stay at home until the vaccine has had a proven safety record. This is their best chance I think and ours as a society.

So where are the young teachers getting the covid-19 from? From their pupils or from socialising with friends. My suspicion it's mainly the latter.

Anyhow I agree with your point that there was plenty of time to get the teachers vaccinated before the reopening of the schools, too late now so we might as well get just on with the most simplified vaccine rollout there is rather than turning everything upside down again.

Hatred is a strong word.. Its not like that for me.. I just find it nauseating when I hear of another dispute with teaching unions.. There seems to be a dispute at least once a year and they inevitably always get what they want.. I can't think of any other profession that are so well protected by unions.. Its laughable how molly coddled they actually are

Parents are legally obliged to send their children to school.. Its the law.. The notion that school is akin to free childcare is rubbish.. Most teachers don't care about their students it's just a job and they go through the day like anybody else would just to get paid.. I'm sure they knew what they were getting themselves into when they studied at teaching college..

nobody on here can speak for all teachers in a positive or negative light and that's the bottom line. like in all professions you have good and bad but that's not the argument. teachers have great time off, nobody can say otherwise but this issue with teachers unions regularly having a problem with things is ridiculous. if they strike they will open some can of worms.

So you said that most teachers don’t care about their students from my experience and my own children’s this is complete BS . I also happen to know quite a lot or teachers and SNA who would tell you different. Also like every job you know what you are getting into.

You are legally obliged to educate your children, not to send them to school. There's always homeschooling for those so disenfranchised. Or private tutoring

I have to agree with you.

Im having a teacher, and a nurse in my family and they are very good at what they do - its a passion to them

Its about 95% of all teachers who had chosen that occupation for different reason than a passion with teaching, and most of them dont really care about children.

My son was very lucky, and probably its not only teachers but also me as a parent who helped him to explore the world.

At schools these kind of children are seen as the ones which shouldnt be there. Why? How can you work with 20-30 kids in the classroom, where most of them learn in own pace, and a few like my son is boring within 15 mins?

Its just example.

This job is not easy, but none of them are.

Once you decide to go this way, then be as good as you should to help growing children - our new future.

Its not only about school, as Ive mentioned above, 80% it should be parents who teach their children about world, showing them to have a passion, and helping them to develop

The teachers unions want to shout out loud and be heard, that does'nt mean they will get their way.

A lot of other people have worked very hard during the panademic and deal in people facing roles also, eg Supermarket workers who are lowly paid, work very hard and just get on with it. Any business that has stayed open has contributed to the economy in the form of Vat and income tax, this money is badly needed to keep the country going.

The teachers have been on holidays for last week and this week, If they were to get their and jump the queue it would still be well into May or June before they get the second Jab, Most will be on their summer holidays at this stage.

They need to cop on and stop trying to hold the country to ransom yet again.

If they do choose industrial action let them waste their time,

Unfortunately the victim here will be the students.

"When the schools were closed, were the teachers on PUP payment??

They were working. "

Depends on what you would call work, as we have kids going to school and sending an email out every morning at a minute past 9 and doing 3 zoom calls a weeks lasting 30 minutes isn't education or work, teachers have always something to complain about every year, but this stunt is a disgrace by them, the vaccine roll out should be done on health and age, unless you work in an environment where your dealing with sick or elderly people. Plus they should count themselves lucky that they have been on full pay throughout this pandemic, yet kids have lost out on 9 months of school. I'd be all for giving the the vaccine if in return they gave back the lost time and work the holidays. But since they will be on holidays again in a few weeks they ain't in the most urgent category right now.

If your kids end up at home after an outbreak on the school you might change your mind. I know of two schools not far from me that closed early for Easter because of covid.

My daughter is a primary school teacher and I can assure you she didn't get away as lightly as the teacher your describing above. This whole thing wouldn't be an issue at all if we had a reliable supply of vaccines but if teachers are going back to school in September without having been vaccinated it could lead to problems.

Also, the minister's thing about someone aged 65 being more vulnerable than a teacher doesn't fully stack up. Most 65 year olds at the moment are presumably working from home. Teachers, especially if they're working with high dependency children, are spending 6 hours in close contact with the largest classes in Europe. Let's just hope the roll out doesn't suffer any more hiccups.

it seems People here who have fam as teachers are getting highly offended. whether or not you think teachers have a cushy job is not the issue. the issue is they want to be prioritised in the vaccine chain and are often kicking up a fuss over one thing or another down through the years. we don't have enough vaccines at present but there should be a clear plan from day 1, start to finish, who gets vaccinated and what order and you stick to it. the is the easiest way of a smooth rollout.

maybe its because the unions are regularly moaning over 1 thing or another down through the years?. its like they're never happy. Bollocks I'm speaking from my own personal experience during this lockdown. So as far as I'm concerned they didn't do enough to justify full pay. Plus why the hell should they jump up the vaccine list??? And don't give me the shit about schools been over crowded and having to work a 7 hr day in a class with 20/30 kids, try working in a supermarket where your coming into contact with hundreds of people or work on a factory line on a 12 hrs shift, or construction where its impossible to social distance! Ye will just have to wait like everyone else for the vaccine yer nothing special.

"When the schools were closed, were the teachers on PUP payment??

They were working.

Obviously you didn't read the full chat, as it says that anyone who is working with the elderly or sick (that would be people working with vulnerable) should be on the priority list. But when you have teachers unions calling for teachers to be bumped up list is an absolute disgrace. This is the only thing this government is doing right, Age and underlying health condition should be priority as well as hospital staff, staff working in nursing homes and home help, after that it should be age and health driven, covid19 has a lower death rate than the flu for someone under 60 in good nick.

“My job deserves more recognition than your job”

“Your job is more cushier than my job”

“You know what you were getting into this career”

“You should just get on with it”

These are typical arguments I see when it involves a work group going on industrial action. Hilarious really but also sad and cringeworthy. It conveys jealousy, envy as well as a snooty and entitled mentality.

I worked in an industry, that is highly unionized and I’m not ashamed to say that I could be militant when it comes to union activities and industrial action. I have spent time in a field/profession that isn’t unionized and I cringe at how individuals get used and abused without being compensated for it as well as taking the time to do things outside of work or outside their contract and job role.

When individuals take industrial action, they’re doing it to benefit themselves AND their families. Why should you despise that? Too bad if their industrial action impacts you in some way. They work for themselves. Not you!

Why should you have disdain for individuals who want to better their conditions?

Why should you have disdain for people that have the backbone to fight and not appease a corporation or body?

Just because your field of work doesn’t enable you to seek out better conditions, makes you probably work harder and does not have the ability to exert some form of control via a union, does not mean you should despise those that have the ability!

Perhaps, your group of individuals in your line of work should shake things up to get better as well as “cushier” conditions and treatment?

Sitting around looking pretty and being a scab does not achieve anything...

I don’t think I could ever be a teacher. At least not a secondary school teacher.

When you think about the holidays and time off teachers get, it does sound like a great gig and I’ve considered getting a teaching qualification. I would move to Australia however and would rather teach there.

On the other hand, taking work home to mark, ensuring that you’re meeting quotas to get X amount of kids to achieve certain grades, shouting and talking at the top of your voice, dealing with kids and parents that may make your life miserable, dealing with personal issues of children or when they’re sick in your class and start vomiting and other things that come with being a teacher would not be for me...

I would agree that children could be falling behind if they’re not back in the classrooms fast enough and that zoom lessons aren’t as good as being physically in the class room.

I know a few children of family and friends that are.

I do believe it is up to you as a parent to provide that extra support to your child in one way or another and push your child to do additional work outside their zoom lessons!

Either invest in a few resources, go online and YouTube and study a little yourself or go over the resources together with your child. Also, consider getting your child extra tuition perhaps or seeking family and friends that will be useful in a particular subject?

Having several little cousins and being an uncle, I’ve been doing my part to help out. My niece is struggling with some of her spelling (mostly those with C and K) and multiplication tables.

I’ve given her a list of words beginning or have the letters of C and K for her to learn. I also make her study and then recite to me, numbers of times table every week. I sent her away last week to study the multiples of 6 and will move on to 7,8 etc...

For what rd worth Im passed the school stuff thankfully.....but an observation.I know teachers and know tgey were working all through inndifficult circumstances. They put an online programme from home in some cases and others from school building but rare....I know lots of parents and older kids bought into the zoom stuff very effectively.n...But But some parents that I have observed couldn't care less only complained about the school's being closed because they had to do a bit of work with kids and many didn't bother at all.....The school being closed was a loss of child minding sevice for 5 or longer hours Monday to Friday....couldnt care less.....saw with my own eyes.....Teaching is difficult at the best if times now almost impossible.....I feel that the threat of strike is going too far. They will loose a lot of goodwill.....Hopefully compromise will be reached possible priority in the age categories that have been introduced....Just a thought

Keep Safe.

"I don't think I've ever read such a load of ill-informed, self entitled tosh in my time on Fab, and I've read some shite.

Lugging blocks across a building site while have someone roar at you is difficult work both mentally and physically.. A teacher wouldn't last 10 minutes at that.. Poor snowflakes.. "

Genuinely the best bit of click bait - fish trip I've ever read on Fab

I'd like to say that my comments weren't bashing teachers as people or a profession, I just get annoyed with the seemingly "I'm more important/deserving/at risk" than you mentality that some teachers obviously feel...I personally feel an age roll out of vaccinations (aswell as vulnerable people) is the most sensible and fair approach. KISS....keep it simple stupid!

Oh boy, what a debate. Firstly, holidays, a teacher in the 80's offered his job to a sales rep. The teacher would take his! A bonus every New Year and some City folk getting 'gardener's leave'! Oh, and the company car too. The sales rep refused! Teachers deal with parents and children not just a 'product' that does not interact all day! This is exhausting. Social distancing in a Science Lab? Not possible I'm afraid. That's if you want scientist trained properly in the future to solve this Covid crisis! Hours worked: In the private sector they work from 7.30-8 in the morning to 5 or even later baby-sitting children while parent go shopping! A state teacher last week saw 46 parents in one parents evening - 5 mins each. After a day's work! My mother taught 65 in a class in the 60's. I asked her how she did the marking. She didn't...she fell asleep! [There was the cane though]. The Unions are finally joined together and have as much power as the NHS now so wake up time because various governments having been receiving Education on the cheap for many years. Teachers need their holidays but if you are envious qualify and join them or shut up? Until you've been there don't knock. Safety: A friend of mine died of Covid in December - a teacher. The government have not told the public all the risk factors involved in schools with regard to this. I could go on but it's obvious that this forum is biased to one side. I thought I would give another point of view.

Personally I think teachers are losing a lot of respect thanks to their unions. For a strong proportion of teachers they return to school for 6 weeks after Easter and then they are on paid holidays for 3 months. I know primary school will have an additional few weeks on top of that but the situation is similar.

Why should secondary school teachers be prioritised when they will only be working for 6 weeks out of the next 5 months.

Also let’s be honest a big proportion of teachers done fuck all work when the schools were shut and got full pay for it. I work with a guy still in school and he had maximum 1 zoom class a day. What happened to all the other classes he’d have if he was in school. Also there are a number of teachers both primary and secondary living in the area and it was blue you obvious they weren’t doing much teaching online either!

Can I just correct something that's getting mentioned here regularly and it's not correct.

Teachers don't get holiday pay for the summer. They get paid for the 9 or 10 months which they work. This is then paid over the entire year rather than just while they're working. This is why sub teachers get paid a higher rate than contracted teachers.

I think we are loosing sight of the really problem. The government had mad a ballox of this. They have changed their minds numerous times on many different strategies. They are also doing something very clever here and highlighting this fact that the unions are questioning them which in turn is taking the heat of how inept they have been. Also who gives themselves a 10 grand pay rise in a pandemic

What is the sample size you are referring to when making that statement ?

To get something done things need to happen with universal support. Why do you think politicians rarely go against what the party wants. It's about solidarity as part of a group . Be it good or bad that's just human nature You can be sure there are significant amounts of teachers who have raised issues for the unions to take the stance.

Working in a supermarket isn't in the slightest bit comparable. Large areas with relatively low time spent in close proximity with others on a per person ratio.

Teachers are working often in overcrowded classrooms as it is. Work in situations with kids with special needs who can at times lack the capacity to understand social distancing etc. Work in environments where the kids are literally physically assaulting teachers.

The issue is people who think teachers are glorified babysitters and haven't got the slightest clue about the functional realities of the job. They tend to have a story ib their head teachers are paid too much/too much holidays etc

By the way I'm not a teacher . I wouldn't have the patience for it but hope the teachers get sorted.

I'll make it simple for you

9 x monthly pay (for the months they work) added altogether and divided by 12 months. They do not get paid for time off

teachers unions have been in the news more then once since the start of covid. down through the years they're often complaining over one thing or another. now, if the government promised they'd be up the conveyer belt for vaccines and then pulled plug, they'll obviously complain but if u vaccinate teachers then other people in close knit inviroment jobs will look for the same. u then open a can of worms. step in line and wait your turn. easiest way after vulnerable is age down.

That doesn't open a can of worms at all. That's how it should be unless we get a supply of vaccines that can get everyone done quickly.

People working from home shouldn't be prioritised on the basis of age once the vulnerable categories have been done imo.

"teachers unions have been in the news more then once since the start of covid. down through the years they're often complaining over one thing or another. now, if the government promised they'd be up the conveyer belt for vaccines and then pulled plug, they'll obviously complain but if u vaccinate teachers then other people in close knit inviroment jobs will look for the same. u then open a can of worms. step in line and wait your turn. easiest way after vulnerable is age down.

That doesn't open a can of worms at all. That's how it should be unless we get a supply of vaccines that can get everyone done quickly.

People working from home shouldn't be prioritised on the basis of age once the vulnerable categories have been done imo. "

when you vaccinate the vulnerable and those working with sick and elderly you then go from age down is the easiest way imo. the older teachers would be vaccinated by this criteria anyway.

I only had an insight regards secondary school as I'm giving the odd maths grind. I think they did a pretty good job the second round of teaching online, running the whole timetable online including roll calls and student rapports all available online.

"Can I just correct something that's getting mentioned here regularly and it's not correct.

Teachers don't get holiday pay for the summer. They get paid for the 9 or 10 months which they work. This is then paid over the entire year rather than just while they're working. This is why sub teachers get paid a higher rate than contracted teachers.

I know.. They still get paid for 3 months to do nothing

I'll make it simple for you

9 x monthly pay (for the months they work) added altogether and divided by 12 months. They do not get paid for time off"

Already said I know.. No need to explain something easy to understand.. How does one turn on a tap oh wise one?

Thats another thing they have going for them.. Working 9 months and getting paid for 12..should only be getting paid for 9 months not have that cushy arrangement.. Unions making life easy again..

You still don't get it do you?!

Their pay is divided into 12 payments, 1 per month if the year, they could as you say get paid for 9 but then their pay would be divided into 9 payments.

They spend a lot of time doing work for which they don't get paid, marking, assessing and supporting students outside of their paid time. They work over their holidays preparing work for the year, they do extracurricular activities, they even sometimes use their own money for resources and training they should have from govt. And some buy lunch or breakfast for their students who are hungry.

Teachers have worked throughout the Pandemic mostly using their own resources, laptops ,internet connection, phones, heating electricity etc.to ensure their students were working and coping with the situation.

Seany boy, teachers have worked throughout the pandemic, teaching the kids of key workers in school and remotely teaching their other students, whilst producing new material and resources, using their own resources.

BTW teachers are classified as keyworkers/front line workers too

They have worked hard during the pandemic and have to endure the negativity from people who do not understand the job of a teacher.

Teachers work in the real world too, the world where they are underfunded and overworked. They not only teach but guide their students through childhood and prepare them for the real world as you say, if it's so easy a profession why do 1 in 3 want to leave it? Why isn't there a queue around the block to become a teacher?

I wonder if you would be willing to take your work home with you and work late into the night, work over your holidays whilst your family are heading to the beach without you once again? Cancel weekends with family so that you can mark and return work to students on Monday?

Why don't you try teaching if it's so easy.

I'll have to correct you there, and please refrain from the coarse language. Teachers have not been furloughed, they have worked throughout the pandemic. You are lucky you can help your kids at home, all teachers I know have had to send their kids to school whilst they work teaching other people's kids and then helping their own kids when they come home as they are only supervised at school, sometimes with no access to computers.

"Did you not read what I said above?

Yes I read everything

Teachers work above and beyond for their students,I know from personal experience.

Rubbish they are lazy and do the bare minimum I know that from experience too

They have worked hard during the pandemic and have to endure the negativity from people who do not understand the job of a teacher.

They have been off for nearly a bloody year.. They haven't worked hard.. Are you having a laugh?

Teachers work in the real world too, the world where they are underfunded and overworked.

Underfunded now that is funny.. They get paid genourously for the work they do.. Overworked that's hilariously funny.. They wouldn't work on batteries I'm serious

They not only teach but guide their students through childhood and prepare them for the real world as you say,

Teachers like that are few and far between.. So they care about every student.. That's madness.. There could be 600 students in a school

if it's so easy a profession why do 1 in 3 want to leave it? Why isn't there a queue around the block to become a teacher?

I personally wouldn't be a teacher as it would bore me silly

I wonder if you would be willing to take your work home with you and work late into the night, work over your holidays whilst your family are heading to the beach without you once again? Cancel weekends with family so that you can mark and return work to students on Monday?

Boo hoo we all have to bring our work home.. Teachers should be no different

Why don't you try teaching if it's so easy.

As I stated previously teaching wouldn't challenge me in the slightest it would bore me senseless "

"I don't think I've ever read such a load of ill-informed, self entitled tosh in my time on Fab, and I've read some shite.

Lugging blocks across a building site while have someone roar at you is difficult work both mentally and physically.. A teacher wouldn't last 10 minutes at that.. Poor snowflakes.. "

From your ranting I take it that it's been a fair while since you've been in a school and observed what's going on then!

Bet you still think every classroom has a blackboard and chalk

"what a load of bull lol..beaches!! who are you trying to impress!! Were in fking lockdown!!

Like I said Sean , you need to calm down. I am merely trying to relate to you what it is like for teachers all of the time regardless of pandemic, hence the reference to beaches. Though I don't think beaches are out of bounds atm ,if within your 5KM

"

try telling to someone else, teachers are not on the front line ffs any more than a person on min wage working in a grocery store..!

The teachers/unions whatever think they are above all well they are far from it so they need do like all else and go earn there keep an stop whinging

"I don't think I've ever read such a load of ill-informed, self entitled tosh in my time on Fab, and I've read some shite.

Lugging blocks across a building site while have someone roar at you is difficult work both mentally and physically.. A teacher wouldn't last 10 minutes at that.. Poor snowflakes..

From your ranting I take it that it's been a fair while since you've been in a school and observed what's going on then!

Bet you still think every classroom has a blackboard and chalk"

Many have tablets.. The latest technology
