Body clock...

It's the weekend after a tough week of work. The only thing you want to do is have a lazy morning a sleep on with no alarm clock set.

Unfortunately you're body clock has other ideas and enjoys waking you up effectively at the same time you get up every morning for work

Do people have the same issue and if so what time does your body clock alarm go off at in the mornings?

Mine seems to be in and around 6:35

6-6.30 ish

Tho this morning took the piss. Woke up, saw 6.4t on clock & thought 'f**k I'm late'. Jumped in the shower, got dressed & realised it's Sunday. And I don't work Sundays.

Oh I done that 2 weeks ago myself..

I absolutely cursed myself when I realised it

I assume it is related to stress levels and your mind not switching off enough during sleep. I've tried drinking a pint of cold water before sleeping as I read that can help but no, body clock is ticking away as normal in the morning..

So irrating

I've never owned an alarm clock and never set one on my phone.

During the day I can usually tell what time it is to within 15 mins without looking at my watch.

During the night I know what time it is to within 5 mins without fail.

Regardless of what time I fall asleep I wake a minimum of 10 times a night and haven't been in bed beyond 6.30 in about 30 years even at weekends or on holiday.

I'm up every single morning between 5.30 and 5.45.

I bought a Fitbit a few years ago and for the first year it recorded my average as 3 hrs 48 mins.

That has improved slightly but is still well below 5 hrs

And can you function ok on that amount?

Just curious as a long term insomniac, but I think I average about an hour more than yourself. Lack of sleep doesn't seem to impair, but I begrudge the hours spent tossing and turning

I'm on autopilot most days and envy anyone who says they feel rested when they wake. I feel more tired than I did going to bed. That's my default position now and has been for as long as I can remember.

I've tried every form of remedy and medication going, meditation, yoga etc etc and nothing ever worked.

I've had one sleep study done which was inconclusive and I've been on a waiting list for another for about 15 months.

I've always woken early regardless of the day of the week. If I've had enough sleep it doesn't bother me, in fact, it's nice to have time to myself before everyone else's day starts.

If you Google Circadian Rhythm there is plenty of information about it and potentially reasons why it happens to peolle.

Alot down to the amount of light that gets into the room in the morning and also just before you sleep, ie looking at a bright screen on your phone the last thing before you fall asleep can trigger your body to wake up earlier than usual..

Fascinating stuff...

I used to be like that I'd work 12 days in a row up at 5:30..when it came to a weekend off and much deserved rest I'd wake at usual time 5:30 buzzing but at the same time exhausted and in need of a few extra hours of sleep.. I found that having a couple of drinks and I mean just 2 the night before you want a lie in worked wonders and knocked body clock out of sync allowing sleep.. Only have a few drinks though anymore will interfere with sleep..

You might be dehydrated.. Drink a pint of hot water first thing when you wake up in the morning.. Eliminate any caffeine source.. You might be an addict to that can mess your sleep up.. Sounds like you have a rough time

I had insomnia since childhood, and long before mobile phones were invented

That was the worst, being sent to bed so early and knowing you were going to be lying there for hours awake, it was torture!

Just like in real life my body clock has a snooze button. I usually wake around 6 for work but if it’s a day off then I could easily roll over on sleep on for another few hours. I’d get a good 7-8 hours of restful sleep a night.

I can feel people’s hate for me already

I always wake in the morning around 6.30-7.30 but I just go back to sleep if I don't need to be up. I am a champion daytime sleeper!

That said, I often struggle to get to sleep at night. I have an elaborate routine including blocking apps on my phone, a relaxing face massage, lavender pillow spray, plus a meditation / sleep music / white noise. If all else fails I use melatonin.

Whatever it is about the 3rd lockdown, threw me out of sorts. Traditionally an early to bed, early riser. No need for alarm clock. Iv found myself flicking the tv channels at 2am and struggling to get up in the morning. I think the lack of an end sight has a lot to do with it
