Just read the above yet again on a single males profile. This is just plain incorrect and frankly irritating to read. Ladies, can you please clarify for the men how important their profile description is and what it tells you about them? Tks, Mrs

Oh I totally hate those profiles, you can find so much out on a profile about people. If it's blank or very little information I'll pass on by

It's not unique to male profiles though.

Any profile that doesn't make an effort with pics and/or bio shouldn't be surprised if they don't get the response they expect.

I know a lot of women will say that they get messages regardless even with no pics and just a few lines and that's probably true but are they the type of messages they really want?

I agree with the op,i will always read a profile bio before i would even consider responding to a message.

A well written bio can give you some sort of an idea about the person you are potentially going to message back

Hell

I look at a profile before even opening the message. If the bio is empty or worthless I just delete without reading.

If I have an unread message, I look at the profile first to see if there is any effort put into the bio if not I generally don't respond to the message

I always read the profile to get an idea of what the person is like before I chat to anyone and I've lost count over the years of the amount of times I've had to ask men to please read my profile properly.

Thanks ladies, RB and Kaizer for the replies

I dunno .... you could psychoanalyse it to death. To me, it's worse than the "fill in later" bio, to me it's saying "I have no personality" or "I didn't read your bio either"

RB, you know I normally defend the single guys because they get a bad rap here, but I must say I have never seen this on a ladies or couples profile.

I have to be honest. Sometimes it's said in a profile as a sign of frustration by women who are fed up that others aren't reading their profile so they add that comment or they delete their entire bio and just have that line or something similar.

I've also seen it on profiles that have returned and they say, been here before, know the score, anything else you want to know just ask cos no one reads this anyway.

It’s a reaction based upon their experience, or lack of, not reality, a strange choice of focus in a place to convey personality and humour. In my opinion at least.

To me it's passive aggression from the very start....best avoided. That one liner says enough for me to form an opinion on what that individuals personality might be like.

Bio is always important.

As well as a profile pic (I know I've none , the irony, but I'm not meeting atm)

But a bio and pic tells you a lot about someone from the outset. If they can't make the effort to write a bio there's a good chance they won't make th effort to meet.

So you're exactly right

It's like anything else in someone's profile when they ask advice on how to improve it.

What's the point telling them to remove certain lines because they might be offensive or that they should do this or that?

Then it becomes a mishmash of things others want to see or read and it's not really a true reflection of that person themselves.

If something is ignorant or offensive or stupid that's a much better reflection of who they are rather than offering advice they can hide behind no matter how well intentioned the advice is.

If anyone wants to judge us due to one very specific tongue in cheek reference to people not reading profiles so be it. Or indeed for any other part of our profile that doesn't refer to that.

Our profile is there to reflect us, not to pander or people-please.
