Does grammar and spelling in a profile or a message effect the way you view a person...

If they say two instead of to or there instead of their. Dont us full stop or capital letters where appropriate...I got two strikes from a profile yesterday for bad grammar....

No. As long as I can understand what someone is saying without too much effort. I'm friends with a lot of non native English speakers with varying degrees of English skill and obviously people with dyslexia. I know better than to assume that bad grammar means someone is unintelligent.

I think people take it way too far and it just makes them look like assholes when they point out a misspelling or grammar mistake.

Language is for communication. It doesn't need to be perfect to be understood.

We're sending messages, not writing dissertations, so I don't get too het up about the odd spelling or grammar mistake. But, I must admit, if a message is verging on illiterate, or looks like it was written by a teenager from the MSN era, it does tend to put me off.

It doesn't bother me really. It amuses me when someone does come on correcting others though and mess up themselves. I find people correcting bad grammar more annoying.

I saw a post on here last year from a man who obviously had issues with writing. And he got absolutely ripped apart when all he wanted was some advice if people had taken the time to read what he had tried to express instead of ripping into him he might have stayed.

Like Anya has pointed out English is not everyone's first language and some people have dyslexia etc, I know also tend to type fast and not proof read and have often made mistakes also. Which have been pointed out sometimes.

It doesn't really bother me it wouldn't put me off talking to someone the content of a message would do that.

I have published two of my stories on fab (one of them is still in progress), and I ve apologised people in advance as its difficult sometimes to me to find the proper word in foreign language. My native is rich and one thing can be described in different ways.

I think reading books helps a lot

I love reading! No mater crime, sci-fi or biography.

I lived in different county and when came to Rebels, people were asking me about the accent.

It was funny on the beginning.

I think having mixed skills of VAK learning helps me a lot.

To be fair I hear that there's an internet virus doing the rounds on various porn sites that messes up your spell checker!

All you have to do is click the wrong link and it's in your phone within seconds. Lucky four me I don't book at those kinder sights so I should bee fine!

Im guilty of being a grammar nerd but im trying not to run away when i see errors in a message lol.

I realise theres all sorts of reasons, including dyslexia or non-native speaker, why someone's message mightn 't be word perfect.

Its the intent and tone I look for now.

I usually try to use proper grammer all the time, as much as I can anyway.

In saying that though, I definitely find that someone else's wouldn't bother me unless I found it hard to understand what was actually being said to me

Just a few things which I find mildly irritating are the text speak and the lack of full stops/commas in a paragraph of text.

The one thing that I find hard to resist verbally correcting is "I done this" and "I done that" in conversation

I'll bet that 100% of the above posters spell/grammar/punctuation checked their comments before posting

Like BM I'm dyslexic so some of my posts take an age to compose or there are certain words I need to check the correct spelling of multiple times a day.

I know I post at time with several typos which annoys me.

Saying all that reading some people's posts who clearly haven't bothered trying to format them or proof read with all the tools on a phone to help these days puts me off a little.

It's more the lack of effort than lack of knowledge.

Absolutely agree with this. When a message in text speak is so abbreviated that it looks like algebra, I'm usually put off. I often post without checking my messages and it's a combination of fat finger syndrome and Autocorrect that makes a normal message look ridiculous. I can't say spelling or grammar makes that much of a difference on a forum post especially if you can get the gist of it.
