"Im a foreigner so probably did a lot of mistakes Im open to be corrected. English is my 4th foreign language, so probably it happens time to time If I may add its not only the grammar when reading a message but the language at its own used. I have to use Google to search what exactly person meant to tell me. I dont mind abbreviations to be used as "wtf, btw" but some 'shortcuts' are really annoying me. Its even worse than trying to read in Chinese! " Wow fair play Anya knowing 4 languages is a real achievement and honestly reading what you write on here I'd never have thought English wasn't your first language.

"We're sending messages, not writing dissertations, so I don't get too het up about the odd spelling or grammar mistake. But, I must admit, if a message is verging on illiterate, or looks like it was written by a teenager from the MSN era, it does tend to put me off." Have to agree with this, there has to be some level of intelligible communication to spark an interest on my side

I have learnt English when I came to Ireland. It took me 3 months of intensive learning with Scottish Engish teacher I have published two of my stories on fab (one of them is still in progress), and I ve apologised people in advance as its difficult sometimes to me to find the proper word in foreign language. My native is rich and one thing can be described in different ways. I think reading books helps a lot I love reading! No mater crime, sci-fi or biography. I lived in different county and when came to Rebels, people were asking me about the accent. It was funny on the beginning. I think having mixed skills of VAK learning helps me a lot.

Smart enough to get that Irish exemption though To the OP. If you are a guy it matters a lot more than if you are the rare female on this site. They can get away with a lot more. As they should

But, I must admit, if a message is verging on illiterate, or looks like it was written by a teenager from the MSN era, it does tend to put me off." This for me also. Its usually easy enough to spot a random error as opposed to someone who's not bothered. Ps: how many people posting here have double checked their msg before sending?

"95% of the time my punctuation and grammar are bang on. Its the other 25% that lets me down. Luckily, maths was my strongest subject in school!" Maths, chemistry and physics always get the max points. Easy to learn the languages but recognize and learn all the times used in English is a real challenge

"Im Dyslexic so its hard to keep everything right to be honest On some threads I spend so long typing an answer that I've missed the person I'm answering and delete the post I'd never pull up anyone on spelling but full stops people " Like BM I'm dyslexic so some of my posts take an age to compose or there are certain words I need to check the correct spelling of multiple times a day. I know I post at time with several typos which annoys me. Saying all that reading some people's posts who clearly haven't bothered trying to format them or proof read with all the tools on a phone to help these days puts me off a little. It's more the lack of effort than lack of knowledge. Someone saying your instead of you're or there instead of their doesnt bother me much...ur or der does

When a message in text speak is so abbreviated that it looks like algebra, I'm usually put off. I often post without checking my messages and it's a combination of fat finger syndrome and Autocorrect that makes a normal message look ridiculous. I can't say spelling or grammar makes that much of a difference on a forum post especially if you can get the gist of it.
