"Why is it that Irish people always seem to need to find someone to have a whinge at, someone to blame. The reason the numbers exploded at Christmas and are still high is because people did not follow the HSE and Government advice. All the strategies and plans in the world won't make up for people disregarding their own civic duties and responsibilities."

"We're experiencing the endless lockdown until the government has found a strategy. Unfortunately by then most sme will have gone bankrupt. Why did the government go through the hassle and draw up 5 levels? " Exactly this!! And will keep going. Hopefully the vaccine program speeds up with more vaccines coming on line.

"The reason the numbers exploded at Christmas and are still high is because people did not follow the HSE and Government advice. All the strategies and plans in the world won't make up for people disregarding their own civic duties and responsibilities." Numbers also exploded because of the uk variant that is more infectious. I wonder how that got into the country with the rigorous travel restrictions we have.... oh hang on the latter only apply to those living in Ireland... for the rest of the world it's still 'Céad míle fáilte'.

" I think that is a bit harsh, the UK variant was always going to become the predominant variant here due to the amount of people that travel back and forth for essential work and education reasons. We also share borderless Island with the UK so the Irish government putting in travel restrictions with the UK whilst travel is still permitted into NI is the equivalent of putting a little smiley face plaster on a shark bite. The government can put any level restrictions in place but the reason he numbers have spiraled out of control is the decisions at individual level by the vast majority. People naturally let their guard down on built up to and over Xmas which is somewhat understandable but now thousands of families are paying the price for those decisions.

"This too will pass and the sun will rise again tomorrow. The entire population is impacted by the actions of the minority. We cannot stop it. I expect we will see lockdown of some sort next winter again. I hope I'm wrong but a flare up here and there and we'll be into level 5 in no time. The world is changing rapidly. Gotta make the best of it when we can. Lee" they'll reach a point where the people will accept no more and you'll have to live with covid like we do with the flu every year. its a joke at this stage. 21 so far is worse then 2020. I have no faith in NPHET or the government either. they're just making it up as they go along and to hell with everybody.

"I think the data coming out of Israel is very promising with the age groups fully vaccinated, infection levels, serious symptoms and mortality rates are falling significantly. I'm quietly confident that by October/November these large population level locdowns will be a thing of the past and will only be a very localised based reaction to any outbreaks until full population vaccination is complete " you never will have everybody vaccinated. thats the thing.

"Stop blaming the public. The powers at be have made an absolute mess of this. Plain and simple." A goverment policy did not spread the virus, people did. It was a bad decision for them to open up before xmas but everyone know the risks involved in going out for meals with friends and having a 'normal' Christmas with extended family. I decided the risk was far too great for me personally and everyone else had the same decision to make. It is too easy to blame the government or nphet for everything without looking inwards at ourselves for our own actions!

"So hypothetically if the government had adopted a tougher stance and imposed a stricter lockdown last year are we saying everyone would have accepted that and obeyed the law? The whinging started when simple guidelines were introduced so it's highly unlikely the serial moaners would accept a tougher regime meddling with their civil liberties. I've supplied hospitality and retail in various forms for most of my working life and all I see every day are people ignoring signs in supermarkets and turning up with their entire family to wander aimlessly around Tesco's and Lidl. Work vans carrying 6-10 people searching for facemasks when they stop for their morning fries and in some cases taking it in turns to use the same masks so they are allowed into the shops. People claiming to be exercising for mental health reasons who have driven for an hour or more with 3 or 4 people from other households in their cars and then claiming its grand because they are out in the mountains and no danger to anyone. Apart from to themselves and the search and rescue teams who have to deal with these armchair adventurers who have never been up a mountain before and are dressed as if they are going to wander aimlessly around Tesco's or Lidl with their entire family. That's pure ignorance and stupidity and that's not down to the government. " you're right but the problem and I keep saying it, you'll never ever get everybody doing the one thing. you're now in a situation with covid numbers dropping. not at the stage yet we need but coming down. were at the 19th February and there is talks of level 5 lockdown until May. wheres the reopening of the country and living with covid? that's why I think daily numbers mean nothing anymore and its all to do with vaccines which is a poor lookout for the people.

The government have to make recommendations taking into account public health, mental health, economic impacts, political impacts etc etc.. Its easy to say on an Internet forum close the border and stop all flights but there are plenty of more considerations to every decision they have to make. The virus transmits from person to person so what it boils down to at a micro level is that every single one of us has to make a risk assessment for every action we take. Doing something outside of public health measures increases that risk and abiding by it reduces the risk. If the vast majority reduce the risk of transmission then we will be in a safer place until vaccines are in place and we don't need government policy to tell us that.

The reward is keeping vulnerable people alive long enough to get a vaccine, to keep people out of IVY on ventilation support, to not over run the hospitals so that other life threatening illnesses such as cancer can be treated and the staff are not overwhelmed. Its not easy.. Just weigh up decisions and try take the decision which is less likely to transmit the virus. That's all I have to add now Stay safe!

I'd say take off the rose tinted glasses buddy you're out of touch talking about piss ups and all the rest that's not what people are talking about, everyone has someone that is vulnerable to covid so the guilt thing doesn't really work and the numbers and facts you post we see them every day we dont need to be reminded, I'm not going to get into politics but yours are very evident, look dress it up whatever way you want and blame the public as much as you want but the bottom line is that the goverment have made an absolute balls of suppressing and dealing with covid" So what should have been done?

" Yet the government allowed free movement between Northern Ireland and the South and there isn't whisper of doubt that that's how the more virulent strain of covid got into this county. Why didn't the shut the border allowing only commercial traffic? Why did they not shut down all non essential flights in and out of this country back at the beginning of this shit show? We have our personal responsibility of course but they have made a cats arse of it.. 100% Shut down the border? Do you know how many crossing points there are on the border? The government have to make recommendations taking into account public health, mental health, economic impacts, political impacts etc etc.. What should have been done was back in February/march when the outbreak happened we should have shut the whole country down nobody in without 14 day forced quarantine.

" So what should have been done?" Everyone should have been responsible enough not to put themselves and their families in a position to increase risk of picking up and spreading the virus. It comes down to personal responsibility and enough people taking responsibility for themselves You don't get exponential growth of cases in the way we have seen in December and January without alot of people not following basic public health advice. That's my opinion which you have asked for.

" the problem is doing that over a serious length of time is not easy for most people. most humans thrive and are born to interact but what you have been asked to do in level 5 so far is stay away from people. most have abided but there is no reward only extension after extension. this is what's frustrating the life out of people. Listen I know how hard it is, I've made huge sacrifices like alot of people have and its very tough. That's all I have to add now Stay safe!not one thing you have said there is allowing people live life with some enjoyment and that's the whole problem. You live for these threads don't you? no, I havnt commented in yonks on any of these. just stating a few facts. if people havnt a problem with a continous level 5 and no end in site and are happy to put up with it so on so forth, id seriously question what they do in life. "These threads remind me of every committee meeting I've ever been to on either side of the table. Whether it be a PTA meeting or a charity or SAR, there are always those who shout loudest about what the board of governors or trustees are doing wrong. They have an opinion on every topic and are quick to voice that opinion but never have a coherent answer themselves apart from pointing the finger of blame. When offered the opportunity to join the committee and make a difference they always have an excuse not to and say it is too time consuming or they wouldn't be cut out for it. " and then you have the do gooders who always sit back, do as their told without asking a question. yes sir, yes mam, I will sir, I will mam. in relation to covid, this level 5 going on and on will have serious ramifications on peoples sanity and mental capacity along with many other areas but that's not looked at in the slightest.

"I came back from Australia in the middle of the lockdown in April for my own mental health as I was in a bad situation in Oz. All I got on entering the country was a slip of paper telling me (and only me no one in my household) to isolate for 2 weeks. No check ins no attempt to enforce it. Now Australia is fully back to normal, partying and everything because they did enforce strict hotel isolation for anyone entering the country for essential travel, it's the only way to do it. You can't expect a whole population to stay sane when they have little to no human contact for over a year. " spot on

So I asked what youd do....and your on about the vaccine the vaccine rollout is going to be as slow as a wet week. I laugh on fab because the vast majority I see on covid articles elsewhere are totally pissed off with nothing been given back to the people and then u pop on fab and u have a few loving the level 5s and wanting them to continue. as I already said, if l5s are not seriously getting to u now, with no end in sight, id seriously question your life in regard what u do for envolvements and enjoyments. thats right everyone who has no issue with their continuation Why question my life??that's the 2and or 3rd time you've said that to me...how I live life.. what I do should be none of your concern...I dont see the issue here...how does the way I live...affect you and covid??am I missing something??I'm saying if people have no problem with continued level 5s with no end in sight they must do fuck all in life in regard enjoyments and involvements. not just u, anybody who has no issue and there is quiet a few on here. " Accepting that restrictions are necessary to protect the vulnerable is a very different thing from 'loving the level 5s and wanting them to continue' as you say. No one is enjoying the restrictions or wants then to continue for a minute longer than they are needed but that does not mean we should all be out protesting with Gemma and John.

When offered the opportunity to join the committee and make a difference they always have an excuse not to and say it is too time consuming or they wouldn't be cut out for it. and then you have the do gooders who always sit back, do as their told without asking a question. yes sir, yes mam, I will sir, I will mam. in relation to covid, this level 5 going on and on will have serious ramifications on peoples sanity and mental capacity along with many other areas but that's not looked at in the slightest. " Where have you seen anyone in any of these threads saying they have no issue with lockdown continuing? I have major issues with it, namely the fact that I've lost one job already and now have to work on a day to day basis. I prefer to spend my time doing positive things instead of being a negative Nancy all the time. It called adapting to your surroundings. I've had to sacrifice activities because of lockdown so I do DIY projects instead. Just because people don't see it from your viewpoint doesn't mean they have no life.

"I think the technical term 'half arsed' sums it up!" its made up as it goes along. you could be at 200/300 cases a day in mid March and still in level 5. when u were at that number in 2020 there was movement out of level 5. its an absolute disgrace whats going on. id love to know how many vulnerable at this stage are fully vaxd.

"Why is it that Irish people always seem to need to find someone to have a whinge at, someone to blame. The reason the numbers exploded at Christmas and are still high is because people did not follow the HSE and Government advice. All the strategies and plans in the world won't make up for people disregarding their own civic duties and responsibilities." Exactly this, the virus can't spread if people don't have contact, doesn't matter what variant. But the cute hours in the sheebeens, the people with the parties, students and everyone else.cant blame the government for any of that.

I guess most have done similar and maybe more. " of course they have at this stage. its no "living" life is the issue at this stage though. even extend the 5k. leave people meet outdoors in x amount of groups but no, no sign of that.

"I am just amazed how media and politics all over Europe has managed to keep the population distracted in fear . An overwhelmed health system is not due to Cov19- it was there before or have you forgotten the hundreds on the trollies? The desolate circumstances in the nursery long were there before 2019. Will they disappear with your magic vaccine, which doesn’t even guarantee that you get infected and may infect others ? And only last week a research trial started with a few hundred volunteers to figure out how much virus load it takes to get infected and to be contagious - shouldn’t these research have been done a year ago - if we didn’t know up to now how come the infamous PCR test is the golden standard to deal with the „ pandemic“ . Concerning rules and restrictions - show me one person I may have infected by leaving the 5km zone and I take all these blame - even though I don’t have any infection. The whole situation is born by mediocre to poor management , politicians run themself into this panic without strategy . While they may have enjoyed the power and control thrill fir a while - they got no exit strategy now that the collateral damage caused has exceeded the pretended risk by far . And the bill is coming and will be bitter . So as long as they don’t have an exit strategy that doesn’t make them lose their face we will continue this lock down game , digging out ever new reasons to shift the goal post to extend the lock down - unless someone has balls enough to say enough is enough " hear hear Most all of us are more than capable of conducting our own risk assessments on a daily basis at and on a better level then government.. enough is enough . The official R- value in ireland is between 0.6 - and 0.9 depending who states it but it is below 1. Someone who has been tested positive 5 weeks ago and then tested again three weeks later positive - the second test is added again to the „new incidents „ - checkout TD McNamarra scrutinizing the statistical method applied at HSE and associated institutions . There is this mystic sword of Damocles created by this Christian Drosten in Germany about the asymptomatic positive . The story derived from some Chinese business traveler who apparently traveled thru Germany attending all kind of business meetings whilst being contagious . This person was than displayed as the „ asymptomatic positive . What Drosten did not disclose is that this person was swallowing Paracetamol by the lot - which clearly indicates that there are severe symptoms . However the story of the asymptomatic positive made its way through the fear monger machine all over the world with the appropriate results . You may find a lung specialist who will tell you something about the likelihood of an asymptomatic positive with a respiratory viral desease - but only behind closed doors as no one is willing to conflict the mainstream narrative as he risks to be discredited regardless he is right or wrk g . Scientific dispute has been killed all long - it’s the true faith or none and any heretic will be dismayed as conspiracists or tinfoil hat wearer . in my humble opinion - that’s religion and not science but I am luckily in the position to give a shit what anyone things about me ....and since this whole lock down rule obedience seem efficiently to work for the „experts“ on our government - here is my bet - once the population is to fatigue to sustain faith in this deadly crisis and its even deadlier management thereof - a new virus or decease will emerge on the horizon to continue the shit show . How about some transmission of bird flu H5N8 in Timbuktu . I should start buying more option and equity shares on big pharma - there is lots of money still to be made - and this! is what this is all about enjoy your evening and happy fabbing

What’s the exact plan to get out of this mess of those in charge ....sorry but your plan could earliest be applied once you made your run to face the electorate ....seems a few years away . That said chances are that this is still going ....

Bill Gates is extremely intelligent and for over 20 years his full time job has been eradicating disease in the 3rd world, investing billions of his own wealth. If Gates had of kept his wealth in investments and not been donating Billions every year for decades, he would easily still be the wealthiest. And they force the city to buy clean water from then. If they are smart enough to create a super virus, why didnt they wait till they had one with a vaccine so they'd make billions and spin it that they are theres that saved the planet. "I wouldn't rule natural or lab out, it's not as if the WHO were very honest from the start and tried to say it wasn't that serious, as to close borders straight away. Fair enough it's a serious virus, but these constant lockdowns are just as dangerous to health, people's welfare, work, economics, homelessness and starvation. Statistically some of the countries that have had the most hardest of lockdowns have actually been the ones that are worst for case numbers. " You say you wouldnt rule lab out... but its enormously unlikely. There is absolutely no way of knowing by looking at the molecular chain of a virus in a petri dish, the range of emergent properties it will take on in human body. It is absolutely impossible for an evil scientist to look at a new virus strain in a petri dish and know that the human incubation period is 14 days, it has an R0 number of X, the number of symptomatic people will be Y, and it will be lethal in Z percent of cases. These factors only come to light when implemented in large scale in the human population. There are literally trillions of mutations a virus strain can have. It's inconceivable that evil scientists could have performed the correct mutations in a lab, knowing this is the deadly one. But it is conceivable that bats, who are also mammals, who drink blood of other mammals, who hibernate in highly dense colonies, whose homes are becoming increasingly close to human populations during to urban sprawl, would be a natural environment for new viruses to be created.

"Who said anything about mad scientists??? There were bat's in the lab and they were being tested on, which it could have leaked from there. Or it could have happened naturally and picked up through the wet markets, like has been suggested. " Well the bats werent in a lab, they were tagged, and periodically captured and their blood taken to check for coronavirus mutations. This is a well documented fact. The question still stands. Which is more probably. The infinitesimally small probability that out of the trillions of potential alterations, through the painstakingly slow methods in a petri dish, that scientists would create a strain deadly to humans. And that there was actually a way of knowing that this one virus that escaped/ released was deadly. Or is there a greater chance that the 10s of millions of bats nesting together, who drink blood of other mammals, with cities moving closer to their natural habitat, are the perfect storm of factors needed to naturally create a human compatible virus and pass it to farm animals that will eventually lead to humans. Yes there is a chance it came from a lab, but it isnt even 1 in a million. Where the the probability of it being created naturally, was a near certainty.
