If you're just writing emails/blogs/docs and browsing internet then a Chromebook will be fine.

If you're doing a little more like spreadsheet/video editing/etc then spend around £500 on a laptop

"I'm stuck in a techno dilemma "

I'd go for a macbook. Seems like a more costly venture at the outset but a decent laptop will set you back about 500 quid and they usually only last 3-4 years before they slow up and need replaced. Lifespan of a macbook is much superior. In addition safari has its firewall and antivirus included so no extra costs forking out annual subscription for Norton or whatever.

That's my experience anyway.

I'd always favour a laptop myself but as already stated above if the purpose is to mainly browse websites, Facebook, twitter and perving on fab then a chromebook may do the job with less expense..

This is the dilemma I am in right now.

I've had Windows laptops, and currently own a Mac. Unfortunately it is mid 2012 so a bit old, won't update to latest software.

Do I invest in another Mac,or do I go for a Windows laptop??

I work/use it for work.

I think the fact the macbook is almost 9 years old and has lasted you that duration answers the question for you.

How many other laptops would you have bought in the same time and factor in 9 years of antivirus subscription to add onto the initial outlay also.

It's in perfect working condition.

Won't upload the latest Apple software,so in turn can't update most apps.

Yeah I guess it has answered my dilemma.

A lot comes down to user preferences, i go windows as i like windows and find it more flexible then Mac OS. Today in general laptops are so much better than say even 3/4 years ago due to the pressure AMD has put on Intel. Before you could only really trust Intel based computers, now AMD is better then Intel in a lot of things.

Apples new Macbooks have there own apple made processors for the first time, they are first gen chips so could be dodgy getting a first gen chip, may best wait until the tech matures and it becomes compatible with more software with a 2nd gen version.

Windows laptops now are great, just make sure you get at least 8GB of ram, (4GB is a useless, no matter what the sales guy in PC world tells you, its not enough for even the basics). Make sure to get an SSD storage drive aswell, this will enable everything to load/boot faster, do not buy a laptop in 2021 that has a standard old hard drive (HDD). They are slow.

Sorry for the long post, just a bit of a nerd moment
