I live in Dundalk.. Have not seen any checkpoints and I did a 15 km round trip.. Don't even think there is a checkpoint on the border.. Where did you hear this?

Just like any other town in Ireland.. Checkpoints everywhere not just Dundalk..

Not necessarily if you live 10km from your local supermarket you can travel there no problem.. You can also visit a grave anywhere in the country too..

Report from the papers today that a new regulation is being issued to give Gardai the powers to send NI cars and their drivers back across the border as legally they can only advise at present.

There's checkpoints in a lot of provincial towns....I was stopped 4 times in Carlow town last week alone

All these legeslations should had been in place and enforced in the first lockdown. People are fucking stupid and dont care. Should all be charged and get criminal records for breaches. Only way it matters if it affects people getting jobs or travelling to certain countries.

The excuse the gov were using that being part of the European union we could not stop the free movement if citizens

As of midnight fri Germany has put a ban on irish people entering their country along with English,Portugese, Brazilians and South Africans so much for allowing free movement of europeans within Europe.

Sending non essential travellers back at the boarders is going to have to happen each and every lockdown has being preceded by mass travel into the country

Lockdown 1 travel from skiing resorts in italy

Lockdown 2 midterm break travel

Lockdown 3 returning migrants for christmas

This gov need to stop flapping around and get real about saving lives

It's a pity that people can't actually take personal responsibility and actually just cop the hell on. But no it's easier to pass on the blame to government etc and have excuses why the simple guidelines were something they didn't need to do.

Personal responsibility is required but All foreign travel should have been cancelled except for essential logistics

well the department of agri can trace all cattle..they know where every cow is..they are all tested every year by the vet..tes it has cost ireland hundreds of millions of euros over the years to test and trace cattle..and now the government and healthbord are shouting about traceability and vaxinations for the people of ireland..maybe they should get the dept of agri to do it for them..

Back in the day of foot and mouth people were still allowed cross the border as long as they disinfected their vehicles and themselves...it was only cattle that were stopped...a fairly easy thing to do on main roads

There's no way they can close the border to peoole

It's too political a decision and it's too intertwined with some people's lives

Does really matter if u have the vaccine or not as you still can carry the virus. Travel wont happen until I'd say until 90 percent of populations are vaccinated

No one had to disinfect themselves at the border when there was foot and mouth.. Remember it well just had to drive the wheels of whatever vehicle you were in through disinfectant that was it.. It was a piece of piss and a big deal made about nothing when you compare to covid..

Personal responsibility is required but All foreign travel should have been cancelled except for essential logistics

This makes total sense, The reason COVID is spreading is because we the Irish did not take responcability for our behaviour, some did others ignored all health advice, pubs and restaurants screamed to be left open, see what happened to help the pandemic spread, People had house parties, people still going on holidays, think back to the racegores who went to cheltinham and ignored all health advice as not to travel, alot of this is self inflicted, if you look at some profiles on here, people are still looking to meet, this all adds up to selfish acts of stupidy by selfish people, closing borders wont stop stupid people being stupid, behaviour will.
