My father was telling me the other day labourers used to piss on their hands to toughen them up. Also told me that those suffering badly from chilblains would sometimes soak their feet in urine to get rid of the itch and pain. I thought he was taking the piss but it was in fact true.

I used to compete in martial arts and ran a couple of clubs. Every year we'd organise a 6 mile barefoot run as fundraiser, we'd tell the newbies that they could toughen up their feet in preparation by pissing on them, which is true. Meanwhile the old hands would use surgical alcohol which did the same job..
