So as we enter a new year and another few months (hopefully not too many) of restrictions/lockdown how are singles supposed to date?

I've come to the conclusion after the last long 9 months that I'd like to date so where the hell does a person start

If you're dating someone new why would you tell them you're on here.

Is it part of a conversation you'd have or would you wait a while

Someone had a dating group going on here did you try that

Not sure if I would say anything about here tbh but than again there's not much to say.

Was in the dating group but most of the guys were nearer Dublin or the South plus I find I get lost in chat groups im crap at flirting at the best of times never mind when trying to "compete" for attention

It then that tells you all you need to know about them. There should be respect wether someone is on here or a dating site. If you are on a dating site surely guys should realise women are actually looking to date, to be in a relationship and a relationship is much more than just sex. I was on tinder and actually met someone so came off here for early a year. Ok it didn’t last but that’s dating. Don’t give up op

Tinder is a gift. I found it really good for meeting people. Had loads of dates, met plenty of lovely girls, some I’m still very friendly with. Beats going to sweaty bar or club trying to spark up conversation in a smelly smoking area.

I wouldn't go near a dating site if I wanted to date. Not my thing. I'd prefer to meet people the old fashion way, ie activities that match your interest.

Also as far as I know there's a lot of deception going on on sites like tinder just to get a leg over.

I would have stayed on Tinder if you were in my area. Instead of have to avoid accidentally swiping on your second cousin

Like anything, we can’t go into something with expectations. If you do, you’re only setting yourself up for disappointment.

Like the advice all single guys get here, fab owes you nothing and you should go into it with no expectations or have a sense that it should be easy to get sex.

That’s the way people need to look at tinder/bumble etc. Just because you’re simply ON a dating app, it doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy to get nice dates or a relationship nor should anyone think they’re entitled to get anything easily. And especially in the middle of a pandemic.

Like Fab, people are on dating sites for a multitude of reasons - sex, dating, relationships, hookups, FWB, threesomes, open relationships. After all, who uses these apps only people and people are vastly different in their wants and needs, just as in Fab.

Like anything in these unprecedented times, dating is simply going to be incredibly hit and miss as we aren’t even supposed to be meeting at all so it’s going to be a hard ask to have any “success” at it. And it’s highly unlikely any guy or woman is going to want to chat to someone on a dating app from now until March before meeting - because being realistic that’s going to be this next time you’re allowed to meet anyone.

Totally agree with the no expectations other than maybe chatting to someone with the similar outlook on dating and life. The few times I've tried the dating apps it hasn't been fruitful so don't plan on rejoining at the moment.

I was watching YouTube the other day and a girl was getting ready to go on a zoom date, she actually said it was as positive as she hoped. It’s strange, I would have thought that the inability to meet would have almost reset the dating scene back to conversations and getting to know people better

It’s been a long time since I’ve been on the dating scene obviously

When I did use it I found Badoo quite good for just getting to talk to people

I think that for men who are both on fab and dating sites it’s much easier to get casual sex on dating sites than here. Not that that’s all men are looking for, but if a man happens to be on both, then it’s more likely to be something casual he’s looking for.

I think that’s going to be mostly true of women who are both here and on dating sites

Tinder is a load of bollox.. Can only send messages when you match with the other person.. What's wrong with unsolicited messages anyway.. Part of the fun of it all is the randomness of it.. Badoo is better but not much.. You need 200 credits to message most people.. POF is the best of them I think..

Reply privatelyReply in forumReply +quote

By (user no longer on site)

Badoo and POF are cesspits in my opinion. At least on tinder and bumble you both know there is some sort of attraction before you have to bother messaging.

Less time wasting for guys and I’m sure much less torture for women with no unsolicited messaging

Dating apps are the worst but then they're not designed for people to leave, they want you there paying your fees and being advertised to.

I'm actually organising an online speed dating event offsite. Think it will be a great way to meet people and actually chat, hopefully some real connections will be made from it too.

When this covid crap is behind us try meetup.

You join groups with people with similar interests and its a good way to meet people.

If you find love great. If you don't you meet new friends and get to hang out with people similar to yourself.

Plenty of nature to see in Sligo!

One could start a date with a walk on the beach and maybe progress to a hike up a hill, or a walk through the park...

A repeat date could lead to a stroll through a forest...

Once you feel comfortable to let your date inside your bubble, you can invite each other over for food and maybe more

Regarding Tinder:

I delete my tinder when I'm in Ireland, as I live in a small town and it's just not interesting.

But when I go travelling to other countries it can be amazing.

Last year I had a 1 night stopover in an Italian city, I arrived at 10pm on a weekday in a quiet part of town - nothing happening for about a mile around me.

I logged onto Tinder and had a date within an hour, met at a pub that had about 6 people in it.

1 drink turned into 3, 3 drinks turned into back at my place An amazingly genuine girl and great memories.

If it weren't for the handiness of Tinder that night, I would have just went to sleep for sure.

Yes it's super superficial, but it does have its spur of the moments!

If I were single again, I'd definitely use here first.

I'd make it clear in my profile what I was searching for and definitely use the 3 date minimum before any sexual contact. At least it's a more open and honest platform than most and you can, generally, have an idea of the person first and actual real contact won't be before you've had a chance to get an idea of them, from profile or forum posts.

Much better than old school chance meeting a friend of a friend, where you have feck all clue, other than the friend thinks you'd be a good match.

At least here you have an idea if you're sexually interested in the same things and, if they're a regular forumite, how they see the world.

Not many sites will give you that combination.

Update your profile accordingly and best of luck OP

It can be difficult to get the flow of conversation going on tinder, some won’t chat or just disappear altogether.

Not much else to be these days and a lot of people who previously wouldn’t have used dating sites/apps are using them. These are very lonely times for people.

I think dating sites are tough because everyone has an agenda. And there's the fear of missing out. This prevents people from choosing a person and if your agenda is sex, marriage, children this is where their mind is gone before they have even got to know the person.

Leave space for the unknown. Chat to random people. Everyone you chat to has the potential to let you learn more about yourself. Enjoy the chat. Enjoy the moment. Life is simple if you make it so.

I dream of finding a lady that i can share my heart with, travel, take to dinner, holidays, vanilla activities. I still believe in holding the door open for a lady, chivalry and that long lost virtue treating her with respect. But i also love to watch my partner having fun with other people.

I would ideally like a proper relationship with a lady who also enjoys this lifestyle, is there one out there for me???
