God awful at opening lines

Anyone else just terrible at opening lines or keeping the conversation going? who's got tips?

Not a rant for the lack of chat I know it's me ??

I know it sounds like a cliché, Ohpee, but reading a profile and trying to pick up on shared interests is always a good start for a conversation

Also, in saying that, not all conversations have to be sexual nor do I mean just the "interests" section on a profile. You say in yours you like to keep fit so, for example, someone could strike up a conversation with you on your workout or perhaps what sports you play!

Just be yourself and the conversation will flow with those you have that common "spark" with! As all too often connections can be like farts; if you have to force them they might be poop

I know the feeling OP, I’m shocked by at opening messages. My mind just goes blank not that there’s much rattling around there at the best of times. I’ve found that if you join in the forums it’s a great help in getting your personality across, for better or worse

I struggle with openings too. On the rarely occasions I’d get replies but the conversation dies as soon as I send a face pic even tho I’m not ugly nor I’m a model but it’s always been the issue :/

Getting involved on the forums is a great idea breaker, and some threads can even get people talking about music , movies etc.

As someone else read the profile and if there is something there that peaks your interest say hello. I know some people give out about one or two messages but if prefer a simple hi how are you. Than a paragraph telling me graphically what you will do to me etc

Awk I'm sure most of us have had that happen at some point on here but it's hard not to have your self esteemed knocked a little; I know mine has been on occasion!

Ultimately someone is attracted to you or not but letting your personality shine through can do more than anything else! It will hold someone's attention longer than anything else in my opinion

I realised you joined during all this chaos but it's a good time to get involved in the forums as said above, let people get to know you. You would also get to know more people and what their interests are and who knows how that might kick on!

You haven't asked for profile advice so I can't comment in that regard but there's a whole lot of sound advice on the forums if you search for similar threads; kudos for doing so for this one! Not many do

If you'd like I'm happy to field an opening message from you and give you any advice I could offer if any at all

Op we all go through the same. Some of us are talkers and some listeners. When you get two listeners it can be hard for the conversation to flow. On saying that if the two people hit it off it is easier. I would be one of the listeners so at times it’s hard to know what to say. When it comes to that maybe it time to move in. If ye meet it could end up the same. Best of luck

It's tough here for most men. If you don't have anything in common with someone it can be difficult to get the conversation flowing, plus women are pretty much spoilt for choice and can be guilty of expecting men to put in all the effort. If it's not working, no point prolonging the agony trying to continue an exchange, conversation should flow. The forum can be a good place to get your personality across rather than "cold-calling" (although this sometimes works too )

Never understood pickup lines, they are either run of the mill and everyone uses them or they are out there and weird.

I think (although I'm not the most successful) you should read their profiles, and make sure to mention that in your first message, you can try to use them to get a joke in or just to ask a good question.

You can list what makes you different and what you're looking for, if you are really desperate for words

Same here. It can be really hard not to come across as too serious, too trivial or too horny.

I see a lot of profiles saying 'don't message and ask "how are you, how's the site treating you?".' But aren't questions like that a perfectly natural way of beginning a conversation, with small talk, something we all have in common?

Opening lines are tough. There's serious pressure as it's your only chance to make an improvement. If you get it wrong you're screwed, and not in the way you want to be.

For that reason, I just sit back and wait for the ladies to come to me. The pungent odour of mystery is a powerful thing.

Having said that, I've never chatted to anyone here at all but I know my theory will eventually work, maybe?

Hmmmmmm, this has thrown a spanner in the works... But it might explain why I got banned off a certain dating app for setting up an account for my dog, giving out inspirational quotes during lockdown.
