Saying good bye to a pet

Jump to newest

We just had to say good bye to our beloved pet dog of 10 years last night at very short notice.

Watching him take his last breath is so hard thinking of all the good memories and fun that was had. Going out the back the following day and he not there to greet you.

Oh so hard.

Good bye to our pet.

Its ready hard but all you can hope for is that they weren't in pain and you'll also have great memories.

When our first dog died last year we had him cremated and the kids say hello to his little urn everyday

It makes a difference

It's one of the most emotional things to do. Their like ur child. Had to go it with our jack Russell she was 15. Had to be put to sleep after heart murmur found.. Held her on my lap while vet put her to sleep.. Cried like a baby. She's cremated and on my mums beside locker..

Ah that’s really shit sweetheart. He adored you too. Did you bring him home?

Our last dog died as a puppy. We had her cremated but her ashes are still on the dresser in the kitchen.

So sorry to hear that, Ohpee. Take comfort in knowing you gave him just as much as he gave you, in every way.

"When tomorrow starts without me

And I'm not there to see

The sun will rise and find your eyes

All filled with tears for me

I know how much you loved me

As much as I loved you

And each time that you think of me

I know you'll miss me too

When tomorrow starts without me

Please try to understand

That an angel came and called my name

And pet me with her hand

I thought about our lives together

I know you must be sad

I thought of all the love we shared

All the fun we had

I'd wag my tail and kiss you

Just so I could see you smile

One day we'll do it all again

Just wait a little while

So when tomorrow starts without me

Don't think we're far apart

For every time you think of me

I'm right there in your heart"

Thanks Red.

We are getting him cremated and getting his ashes in a casket. We will bury the casket out the back in his favorite spot. It takes about 2 weeks.

A few weeks ago my ex phoned to say that dog we had together who had been suffering from cancer hadn't long left, I went straight to hers for one last cuddle, I culled up with her on the floor, and I'm not ashamed to admit that I wept like a child..

Best wishes OP x

Sorry to hear that. It's very sad to lose your dog. We've had a few die, and i remember my little pup being taken away by the Blue Cross man, when I was 6, as he had distemper. Dogs have brought so much happiness and simple pleasure into my life. Maybe, in time, another one will come into your life.

I see a lot of shite on the net. People at each others throats for nothing. Then I see posts like this here and places like imgur. Warms the heart.

Miss my pupper all the time. She's gone 12 years now. Very sorry for your loss Silver.

But you can take heart in one thing, your dog was loved, knew little else of how you felt.

Remember that. You know they did.

I had to put my dog down a few years ago,got him from a rescue home when he was 2 and had him 10 years. It was like losing a child, swore I would never get a dog again after that.

Heartbreaking. There is a company that can cremate the pet and make key rings, pics with their paws etc which are worth checking out

That's the poem I got attached to the ashes of my Max. He was wuth me for 14 years. His last moments were eating his favorite snack, and was able to hold him while he went to sleep. His ashes are still in his spot in the livingroom, I haven't been able to bury him in the garden yet. I feel for you OP it's amazing how much we miss pets.

Very sorry to hear it. Lost our dog after 16 years, a few years ago. She would have lasted longer, but we made the decision to do the right thing. Have her photo up beside the telly. Think about her a lot, even now, she was the best.

That's soooo sad it's been 10 years since my poochie of 16 1/2 yrs died in my arms at the vets, I have her ashes next to her photo's, that was the worse pain I've ever felt and still feel. Reading that poem has tears rolling down my face!!

I know the feeling so well condolences to you and you're family. My first dog of 16 years her last breath was a real Marley and me moment in the vet but i preferred to see her go in my arm. It was sad but at least i didn't come home and find her dead in her bed or out the back garden.
