The Fab Secret Santa Cause

Jump to newest

By (user no longer on site) OP

'Tis the season, Fabbers!...Well, almost! I was going to wait but sure why not bring some festivities to the forum! Feels like we need it

I'm always grateful for our wee community on here with no shortage of some of the nicest people you could ever hope to encounter! Sadly this year hasn't been what anyone would have hoped for, to say the least, but thanks to each other we're still standing strong!

However, whilst Christmas is normally a time to be jolly, seeing friends and family, it's all too often the toughest time of the year for so many. Even without considering the unprecedented times we're living in!

So this year I'm calling on the wonderful people of Fab to help bring a little Christmas cheer and a little companionship to not only one another but to those who may need it the most.

By joining in the Secret Santa Cause you'll be paired up, in secret of course, and asked to surprise your match before Christmas Eve with a festive treat just for them! Be it a message, a wink, a picture, maybe a poem, a sketch or even just a 'Merry Christmas' to help raise a smile

More importantly you'll also be tasked with making a donation to the charity of your choice on behalf of your fellow Fabber

Hopefully from all corners of our wee island we can help raise awareness and show support for our local charities that do so much within our own communities but have struggled the most this year.

So along with your festive surprise to your match, let them know what cause you've chosen on their behalf too! Just say you're "in" and help spread some Christmas cheer and support a worthy cause

I was wary of trying to organise a traditional 'Secret Santa' and how to manage that with addresses, names etc. So this certainly seemed the best alternative!

I know I'm probably being a little optimistic, perhaps even glutton for punishment, but I would love to see upwards of a hundred people join in...at least

Whether it's a board game for a local toy drive, blankets for a nearby animal shelter to a donation to a national or worldwide cause let's spread the Christmas cheer far and wide

Plus you could make a new Fab friend out of it all too!

Just a final wee 'bump' before matches are made this week

Also I just wish to say that I would hate to think anyone would feel under any pressure to make a big donation of sorts I know this year has been tough for everyone sure.

A good deed for a friend or neighbour, spare towels to a local animal shelter to even just checking in with someone who may be spending Christmas alone. Anything that spreads a little joy is more than I or anyone could ask for

I've made a donation this morning to The Children's Cancer Unit Charity based at RVHSC on behalf of our match.

The charity provided amazing support to a close friend and his family recently, and this donation is part of ongoing fundraising by a local group for both this Charity and Angel Wishes. In the coming weeks and months, friends, family and myself will be taking part in several events including a December Dip, Mournes 7 Peak Hike, and culminating in climbing Kilimanjaro.

Yes did mine also. Big thanks to my santa partner. She knows who she is. A really very nice warm loving lady. Just sorry we live so far apart.

My secret santa and I have both done ours today. Made a donation to SVP which she was very happy with.

Thanks to the organisers for all the hard work they put into getting this secret santa up and running.

I initially wanted to do a traditional 'Secret Santa' but considering the logistics it seemed pretty impossible

So a huge thank you for the idea of charitable acts and donations should go to 'Inquisitive Lady'

The same goes to 'the_ofusplus', 'Amelia11', 'Midnight Fetish', 'BeaAndBen' and 'JohnFK' for helping out and putting up with my pestering to make sure everyone who wished to join in was able to!

It's important people are complimented when they deserve it so I hope the above don't mind me saying. Sorry if I missed anyone out but to whoever helped you're all superstars!

Thanks to everyone for joining in, there's an awful lot of good being done all over, Merry Christmas!

Pete great job to you and your team and many worthy causes being helped this very strange Christmas time thanks to your perseverance. I made a donation to my charity Mary's Meals but sadly couldn't wish my Secret Santa a Happy Christmas due to filters she has on. Merry Christmas Pete

Kudos to you Pete for project managing the whole thing and keeping your little helpers on our toes. Would be great to know how much money was raised for charity. Suggestion that this be your next project. Sher what else would you be doing

The person I was selected is either gone off fab or has me blocked and they didnt show up yesterday or this morning in search.. however I had already made a donation to a local cause here at home for a little boy who was hit by a car months ago and its about getting him home for Christmas.. great work Pete.. some effort goes onto those things so fair play dude
