A few of the boxing decisions were farcical that year.

She most definitely wasnt herself in that fight. Stuff going on in background, thankfully shes come back stronger.

Irelands greatest sports person? Hard to think of anyone who has done more.

Without looking for an argument and since I Wikipedia's him to see his achievements as I dont like horse racing, does he consider himself Irish ,Northern Irish or British? I know alot of Northern sportsmen don't consider themselves Irish.

Either way I still feel Katie is the greatest sports person Ireland has produced. She also has 11 international soccer caps.

Easily known you’ve never ridden a racehorse

Might be easy to sit on one but to be a champion jockey takes yrs of hard work, courage as well as breaking nearly every bone in your body

Well a car won’t win a rally without the skill of the driver behind the wheel same for a horse and jockey

I worked in that industy

It's fixed against the ordinary punter

Horses are sent out to loose so that their owners can bet big and win big the next time

I've been told the week of a race and I'm in their yard....dont bet on such a horse as he's due to win the next time and I'll also be told what horse woll win

Since then I don't follow racing and stopped betting on any horse

I couldn't tell you what McCoy has ever won but I know when Katie goes into a ring she's on her own and she's also got the whole country behind her

Without a doubt Irelands greatest ever sports person and such a good role model and nice person

Oh definitely she is no doubt a fantastic sportsperson and what an amazing performance last night ... hats off to her

But equally her opponent deserves to be applauded also for sticking the whole 10 rounds even though she knew she was been beaten hands down and fought til the final bell ... as well as giving a fantastic joyful smile afterwards

That’s true sportsmanship/ sportswomanship in this case .

Well done to all involved

Don't think women should be boxing at all.. Sure it's entertaining to watch 2 women duke it out but it's a poor standard any man with basic training would ko Taylor.. Her punches are weak.. It reminds me of 2 rabbits fighting with the front paws sure it's rapid fast but very weak.. Think boxing should be left to men who have the power to land decent punches

In the week that the first vice president of America is a woman you come out with women shouldn't box

I sparred against an all Ireland amateur champion more than 40 years ago but never competed myself.

Katie is a worthy champion and deserves all the plaudits.

As a woman who has taken part it a white collar event and been to a few the women matches were always way more entertaining. Men just go in and hope for one good punch to flatten their opponent. The strength and grit that guitterez showed in that ring last night for all 10 rounds was amazing. She could have quit after round 3 but she didn't.

It is an unreal feeling getting in the ring. I know the night I fought I was on a high from the adrenaline rush and would love to do another one.

It reminds me of years ago sure women were only good in the kitchen kind of view. It's 2020 now and yes actually most sports are men orinatated while alot of women are still in the kitchen or in the home doing house work and minding kids. Also trying to wing a career on top of it but the women in sport initiative is out there and definitely helping getting women active. No matter what equality is important Katie is doing a great job empowering women.

Yes that's what the 6 foot, 16 stone guy said just before my 5'3 8 stone daughter left him on his arse with a ju jitsu throw.

I'm talking Queens bury rules not ju jitsu.. Like I said a decent sized man would blow her away with a punch.. It's a man's sport "

Im sure a genius like yourself would know its The Marquess of Queensberry Rules, its also called boxing for a reason, not "Its a knockout"

"Don't think women should be boxing at all..

Come on stop the nonsence

For a start she'd box the head off most men on here lets be honest

In the week that the first vice president of America is a woman you come out with women shouldn't box

There's very few things a man can do that a woman can't and boxing is not one of them.

It's just as well someone let them both leave the kitchen to fight

She's a woman and quite a small woman at that any decent sized man would knock her out

My god, what world you live in. You should be proud Ireland have an unbelievable good boxing champion and despite her achievements, you knock her down because she is a woman.

In fairness I think the vast majority of Irish people and very very proud of her. She is an incredible sports "person"

Having seen this quoted towards the end of the thread..without even seeing your username I had a very good idea it would be you coming up with this nonsense. You've obviously never boxed yourself or spent considerable time with anyone in the sport who could educate you (not that you'd listen mind you) . A best mate of mine who boxed for 20 odd years I watched the fight with last night and we'd watch a lot of fights together to be hpnest .

Katie Taylor is phenomenal . The boxing standard is ladies doesn't tend to be as good as mens but for me.. that's less to do with gender and more to do with numbers. There are considerably less female boxers around and the more you have the more competition it creates. The more competition the more the cream of the top will twnd to be of a much higher standard but even that doesnt always apply across the weight divisions. The mens heavyweights for instance was very poor for a good few years and has only taken on a renaissance in recent years.

In terms of technique and timing Taylor is special. Does she pack the punch of a Deontay Wilder ? No. Does he possess her skills to do what she does ? No. For me at the moment Tyson Fury is the man to beat and if his head is right I think almost unbeatable.

The unfortunate thing for Taylor is that the demand to compete/watch womens isn't as big as it is in the mens side and hence the purses paid do not compare favourably to the paydays men get.

Objectively speaking she isn't as charasmatic as some other famous combat sports athletes and cpntrovery sells fights just as much as the skills on show very often. The fact McGregor earned circa $85m in his first pro fight goes to show that the hype train isn't solely based on skill in the sport. Tellingly enough the froend I mentioned never watched that match.between Floyd and Conor as he thought it was a disgrace by boxing promoters to pay someone so much on their first time out but also ackbowledges market value and the money that was generated in that fight meant the McG payday was compatible with it.

I wish Taylor had better competion to be honest and hopefully before she finishes up she will come across more tough days where she has to grind it out. Last night was a breeze to her. What an athlete.

"And still. Big up Katie!"

Don't know how she won last night.. Jonas was able to connect at will.. Taylor looked out of sorts.. Judges will always favour the champ even when they have bad nights.. Seems the only way she will be beaten is if someone can ko her and with weak punches being thrown that will never happen.. She was rocked a few times looked unsteady on her feet on occasions too..

after 5 rounds you could easily have taylor 4 1 up. Jonas deffo won 2 if not 3 in a row but taylor finished strongly. Great scrap but deffo won the fight.

Taylor v Serrano is the one. Serrano hits harder than anyone else out there and KT does get clipped, although she's down an ability to box and move a bit more of late (v Linardatou, Persoon II). BUT she also loves a tear-up and could go to war.

Group trip to NY for that one... who's in!
