Ireland are spetic...have been for years. Over 2.5 goals, England to win, England to score in both halves, England to cover the handicap and Kane to score two or more goals. If he starts

We're not the South, we're the Republic first of all. Most northern point on the island is in the Republic.

The players in the north were always going to play for Ireland to be fair . They just happen to be from the north. They don't choose the republic because they're way better than the north, both countries are equally bad haha. Rice was using Ireland because he probably felt he had no chance to play for England. Either way its everyone's own choice. It's better to have players that want to play than players that feel it's their only way to play international football.

I thought the thread was about rugby at first, hence my 0-0 comment, ya know..pointless. I was trying to be funny and failed miserably

Didn't even know Ireland were playing England in football this week.

That's how much I keep up with sport these days

It’s not politics, it’s just geography. Every country has a name.

Either way, we’re going to get hammered.

Place of birth matters not MOT.

You should know Cascarino falsified his Irish lineage

I’m afraid that’s not correct- most of them played for Northern Ireland up to u21 level - and I can name at least one who played in the full NI side in a friendly international.

In any case good luck to Northern Ireland tomorrow night - let’s all join together in hoping there’s one team from the island at the Euros

I honestly think any player in the North that played for the Republic always felt they wanted to play for the Republic even if they came through the NI ranks. Its not like the Republic are much better than the North. Personally I wont be supporting NI. I only support my own country and then when they're knock out or when they dont even make it I start to follow teams that have the most entertaining players.

Good luck to NI tomorrow night ....we weren't good enough but hopefully they make it.

However I think the finals are going to be completely different to what was planned

It'll be moved to one country only and no matches in Dublin

They live there and probably weren't spotted by the FAI until they showed promise. Why would they switch in all fairness? Theres only two reasons -1. They're not good enough to play for the north and 2. They always wanted to play for the republic.

I don't see any other reason because the Republic are barely any better than the North so it's not like choosing England over Ireland which would make sense if you wanted guaranteed International tournament football.

Fair enough - I guess it’s all a matter of principle.

The thought of switching international allegiance however is preposterous to me.

In my own opinion there should just be one team and all home games alternate between Dublin and an increased capacity Windsor. Players born in the north that feel irish are more than likely always going to opt for the republic even if they came up through the under age international system with the north. Its unfair on the north being honest but it wont stop. One island league and international team is the only way forward now for football here but itll mean alot of suits out of a job so itll take decades if ever to happen.
