Not a criticism of anyone,I know things are tight but if you buy anything for yourself do you try local to keep the money in the economy or is it just straight onto Amazon.

Would you pay a few quid more to try to help the local shops

I buy local as long as the Irish supplier isn't absolutely taking the piss on pricing

Mix of both. I find certain stuff a lot cheaper on amazon. Just purchased a submersible water pump with a hose for 54 euro delivered from amazon. To hire one here for a day 40euro and would need a transformer for it also.

Ive gotten most of my stuff here but one or two bits i will have to get from amazon. I have my eye on a couple of things from local crafters for my nanny and one or two things from crafters on etsy.

"Keep your business local and keep your locality in business. "

This definitely although it depends on what I need and how soon I need it.

Went to a local supplier a couple of weeks ago for door seals. £43 for one door. Went to b&q and got them at £17.99. Exactly the same brand and I know local shops don't have the same buying power but 2½ times the price is too much.

At the same time as I'm now working part time for a local producer/supplier the support we have got from customers both trade and private has been amazing.

We buy local where we can but some of the things we are into (clothes, music etc) isn't readily available in our town or the closest ones either. Usually means we have to go online but we avoid the big names like amazon where possible.

try local first definitely. It's interesting to see how many Irish businesses are adapting to online now. Here in Dublin a lot of the burger restaurants will send you out a box of ingredients that teach you cook burgers properly at home. Very popular now. Companies are doing xmas hampers.. Drinks, food games etc so you can have an online Xmas "party" with work colleagues! All gimmicky but business are doing anything to keep customers.

If lm buying something for myself or work l always see if l can get it local first simply because over the course of my life those people were brilliant to me when l really needed it..of course there is certain items that they cant supply and you gotta go to the internet web sites...such as band t shirts..concert tickets etc etc

I'll look local first then start comparing everywhere unless it's a small purchase where I'll buy there and then but if a decent amount of cash being spent then I'll always go for value regardless. I'm not loaded

I still do most of my buying online but always look for an Irish supplier. Can't hack traipsing the shops anymore tbh, I'm too out of the habit and I find it extremely frustrating. Only use Amazon if I'm stuck.

As local as possible. With Christmas coming I'd rather spend it on an Irish business that needs it, especially with all that's going on. So I'll do that as much as I can.

That being said sometimes I have to resort to Amazon as their slave labour can be quite affective, and I can't always get what I need from these business.

I'm just hoping there's more support for them in the next coming months.

Sometimes it's hard to avoid Amazon and evil Bezos. Needed some special artistic pencils, didn't want to buy them on Amazon, so browsed around and eventually found them on an English outlet. Ordered and when the parcel arrived, guess what, it came in an Amazon packaging.
