"If it's any consolation OP I'll tell you this. I'm half your age but I'm probably dreading 30 more than you're dreading 50. At the same time, I'm kind of looking forward to be 50 and not caring what anybody thinks anymore It's all relative to our current age, and all you do is enjoy the present!" A very mature comment from a young fella. Why worry about something that you can't control, OP? Focus on staying happy and healthy, that would be a much better use of your energy than worrying, and remember, we're all in the same boat

"I know that it's not the same, but I turned 30 this year. Most of my friends were thoroughly panicked about the big three oh. But I couldn't wait. And even though it's been a shit show of a year, I'm loving my thirties so far. I think a lot of the fear around milestone birthdays is based on/ 1. A fear of getting old 2. Disappointmrmt surrounding what you've achieved in life by your age If it's a fear of getting old, this is totally normal. Nobody likes the idea of becoming a burden, your body declining, and your mind slipping away. We're all afraid of that. The best you can do is live your life as fully as you can until the day comes. If it's about disappointment, take a look at that. What do you think you should have achieved by now, and why? Too many people spend their lives in some sort of box-ticking exercise. By 30 I "should" be earning X amount, own my first home, be engaged etc etc. Ultimately, a life spent trying to tick those boxes is living for other people, and will never be fullfilling. Try and think about what YOU actually value, and what experiences YOU want out of life. And then go after them. Hope this was helpful in some way. If all else fails, get some ice cream and watch Bridget Jones. She always makes me feel like I've got my shit together! " Totally agree! I think it's important to note that in our culture we idolise youth for whatever reasons. Media, entertainment and everything seems focused on the young. In other cultures, it's older people who are always the focus of attention as they usually have more maturity and wisdom. Something worth noting

If you've made to your 80s, you're one of the lucky ones. Far too many people never get the chance. And yet, somehow we treat it as though it's something to be ashamed of.
