Are oysters really an aphrodisiac? Doesnt really matter weather ther are or not I'd really love to try some, is it best cooked or raw? I'm a big lover of sea food but always wondered what they are like for sexual and taste purposes.

Not so much taste purposes but the nicest way to cook.

Never had them but have only ever seen them eaten raw from their shell, not the prettiest of seafood imo.

I'm not sure there is anything more than superstition in oysters as aphrodisiacs. I think it's the messy gloopy slimy look that was the origin of this rather than any real effect

Like other shellfish, oysters are a source of zinc, which is meant to play a part in a healthy libido and testosterone production, this may be the source of the alleged aphrodisiac properties.

Personally, I'd imagine there are more palatable sources of zinc than raw, slimy molluscs.

Couldn't get myself to eat one and I'd rather not say what it reminds me of.

Although I used oyster sauce yesterday for cooking, didn't have any effect.

My mum bought them one year from Iceland, had some sort of sauce and bread crumbs on top they wer delicious after that I dont think they sold them anymore but I really did enjoy them was just wondering wat the sauce could have been, I'd also love to make an oyster dish of my own.

Have tried them raw with various sauces on them. Not the most pleasant of experiences. Most definitely an acquired taste.

Dundalk(ish)

I love them (mr).

Get yourself to the oyster festival in Hillsborough next year when all this ( gestures wildly around) is over.

Raw with a splash of tabasco or cooked with breadcrumbs herbs and cheese in a hot grill are great.

Mrs does not agree on raw.

Never tried that, but sounds good. The Chef Show on netflix did a whole episode at hog island oysters. Worth a watch.

Would a steaming turd be more appetising cooked?
