So because the virus is spreading out of control and the while country is in a mess the solution is to have a nice day out to spread it done more. Brilliant, you couldn't make it up.

"Welcome to our world "

... Our previous level of lockdown (level 2) was the same as your current lockdown. Which we've been in since September. We're going to level 5 - no retail, no gyms, no restaurants, not allowed to leave our houses, no travel beyond 5km.

So, welcome to OUR world.

Actually you are wrong. It's not the same as level 2. Which is also what we have been at for months up here. Since last Friday all pubs restaurants( unless doing take away service which a lot can't do) hairdressers beauty salons etc are all closed as well.

Yes we can travel outside 5km but it's recommended we don't unless essential travel and most shops are allowed to stay open if they can .

But then it's not really a competition of who has it worse either side of the border . It's pretty shite for most people especially for those whose jobs are yet again hanging in the balance.

It's totally wrong that the hairdresser's etc have to close ,they've done everything asked of them to get their premises absolutely spot on to a huge cost and only leave in by appointment or a "no issue with social distancing " in the shop.. ie there's no one in the shop at the time you call.

As is the case with most retailers, private house transmission and close contacts are the major issue. The economy is being needlessly destroyed.

Yes, needlessly destroyed because of the covidiots who think they are invincible. They're the ones doing the damage.

Where did you get that idea from?

I've already lost I've job as a result of covid. Lucky enough to find another at half the salary and that is now at risk because of all the business closures. So what am I doing today? Trying to keep my head above water is what!

I was reading earlier that anyone can be fined or face possible imprisonment for having visitors to their house, being suspected of going to a house party and traveling outside of a 5km radius.

As of midnight tonight we live in a country where you can be penalized for NOT breaking the law.

I'd be interested to hear from any legal heads on here who might shed some light on how the new Garda powers work.

If I remember correctly, newly introduced laws must not contradict the constitution.

I'm open to being corrected.

"If you dont open your front door then you cant be charged or fined if you're having a party"

According to the article, if the Gardai come to a house they suspect a party is taking place, while they are not allowed to enter, they are entitled to speak to the owner. If the owner doesn't open the door, they can be issued a fine.

It also says if you are suspected of attending a house party and you don't have a reasonable excuse to be in the vicinity, you can be fined.

It's a bit unsettling if true.
