This is good news. Something had to be done! They need to close the boarder too (apart from for work maybe).

Thanks Belle. You trying to get me sacked? Live north. Work south.

Essential services.

Nah man. I used to work up north and most of my friends do. I'm just saying that people who don't need to for work shouldn't be allowed to cross the boarder either direction.

Ah ok. Yeah I see your point. But to do that you need to close everything. Airports. Ports. It won’t happen I’m afraid.

From a political point of view it would be quite paradoxical and cynical to close the border, just saying.

I don't understand why it would be paradoxical. It would be simply based on the numbers, nothing more, no political agenda. Just a public health one.

To me our entire approach to managing the virus island-wide has been dumb as fuck. We need a united approach, with the same measure on both sides of the boarder. I've lived on the boarder my whole life and in practice, there is no boarder. There is no real division between North and south. And many people in the boarder counties spend equal amounts of time on both sides. This should've been taken into account from the beginning.

I fully agree with you that there should be a united approach to manage and deal with covid-19 and yes so far it's been a joke. However you can't just close the border when things go wrong, you will be giving the wrong signals. You can't achieve a united approach by closing the door, at least that's my opinion.

Further with the Brexit transition year coming to an end, no deal yet on the table and the threat of a hard border on the Island of Ireland which we try to avoid by all means it would look rather strange if we close the border even if it's just temporarily.

It's not a solution. The only way out is pulling together and fight it side by side.

With the government in the south being able to raise money so cheap on the markets the south should off to cover the covid19 payments to all in the north while in lock down ,seeing the UK government couldnt give 2 shits about the north

The wrong signals to who? I don't think anyone is under the illusion that we're all one island anymore. We're two different countries, bordering eachother. If there's a pandemic and one country isn't doing enough to contain the numbers, I think it's perfectly reasonable to tighten the boarder temporarily. We did it during April and I don't remember it causing a war?

Will the bordering counties of Ireland now have to follow similar restriction?
