We're interested in competing in next year's World Wife Carrying championships in Finland. Any suggestions for a training plan?

She's on the way, wrapped up in cling film...I'm off to the pub to do some serious training lifting a few pints.

Did you leave a hole in the cling film for her to breath

we were actually going to do that and then i got pregnant

cardio is a definite and some weights and also plenty of practice as regards carrying herself and try recreate some of the obstacles you will have to do and she may practice holding her breath and her grip

Aw pity. You wouldn't be able to get their training plan for me by any chance?

Will find out for you, although in my opinion a crossfit style workout plan would be best for it etc

kilkenny

Start off by running the distance with just a 5 kg weight in both hands ..get your legs used to carrying some extra weight and over time gently increase the load

Never mind himself.... the training plan is for me, the wife. I'd imagine it's all in the grip really?

We’d be up for a practice race meet on these shores if you want to replicate race conditions in your training? Sounds like great fun. We could swap wives, race twice and aggregate the times!

So this is a championship where women get carried away with themselves?

Might want to narrow the entry requirements down a little as there will be millions of women eligible to enter
