I agree. Culture isnt something inherent to mankind, but just a set of ideas that managed to become so widespread in a group of people that they become ingrained in their society.

Definitly one culture can be superior to another. Also, different aspects of a culture can be better than others.

I'm sure plenty of westerners will look at Muslim culture and think we are superior, not forcing women to wear a hijab. However a Muslim may look at our treatment of animals, and think they are superior in that we are barbarians who do not care for halal meat.

It's quite complex

If he had posited that some cultures are more beneficial for personal & societal growth & progress, I would agree with that. Semantics maybe but saying superior reeks of power, imposition, oppression of the inferior.

I disagree with his premise that culture is bound by nationality. There's a lot of cultural diversity within nations, some indigenous, some imported.

He also conflates state-imposed ideology (communism behind the iron curtain & n. Korea) with culture. Tradional cultures in those areas have nothing to do with political dictatorship.

Yes, there are more personal freedoms in the West compared to theocratic or autocratic states - again more often political than cultural.

Wanting to hold to cultural traditions that are actively harmful to other people? Plenty of that still going on right on our doorstep so maybe not so superior.
